We are going to be in LA the second week of January and want to do a day at Universal, it would be the 9 th of January, a Wednesday. Is it a good idea to do the express pass, the unlimited one? Not sure if crowds during that time of year and day of the week. Thanks!

Crowds are pretty easy on weekdays at Universal. I would not do an unlimited express pass personally. If you want to re-ride things and are staying all day, you MIGHT want to do a regular express pass and just save it for when the lines are long. (We do this often. For example, if the Forbidden Journey line is 10 minutes, we'll ride it without the express, but then later when it's 45 minutes, we'll use the express pass.) But, if you just want to do everything once, you're probably fine without any upgrade on a Wednesday in January.

I agree with the above, you should be fine on a weekday, and I think the holiday crowds should be gone by then. Plus you can buy the express pass when you get there, so you can arrive, see how things are the first few hours or so, and get the pass if you feel like you'll need it.
