Universal park pass choices?

I just checked the Universal website to get info on park pass options. Am I reading what's available correctly, It seems to me that the only option is a 1 day/1 park pass for $49.95 or a Universal Bonus Pass which is a 5 consecutive day pass for $94.95. We are a Disney fanatic family of 5 that finally decided that we would be willing to give up a day or 2 for Universal. 1 day/1 park seems like a real downer, how do we decide which park and $250 seems like a huge expense and only get 1/2 the fun. And then the other choice is to jump up to a $500 expense, there's no way we'll spend 5 days away from Disney, so that just seems like such a waste. Are there other ticket options that are not online? Maybe we won't venture out after all.

It's not a waste if you are getting it for free-
You see, if one park/one day is about 50 bucks like you said, you are really only getting half of the fun, and at no discount to boot.
SO if you simply added another 1 day/1park it would in theory add another 50 bucks.... (I know there is a 1 day /2 park ticket for less than the cost of 2 singles but we are talking theory here :D )so now you have spent 100 per person to do 2 parks in 1 day...
except if you had paid for both 1 day/1parks on the same day you would now have 4 MORE free days in BOTH parks for that same cost! So if you don't use that last few freebies so what? And what if you fall in love with the parks and decide you DO want to spend 5 days there? :)

Or to break it down another way,
1 day/1 park= 1 admission for $50
5days/2 parks= 10 admissons for about $10 each
now which one looks more wasteful?

When I was shopping for a new kitchen table I saw the one I wanted- the set with 2 chairs was on sale for 49 while the same table with 4 chairs was 99. I wanted 4 chairs. I bought 2 of the 49 dollar sets and ended up with an extra table to give to charity. No waste in getting more for your money even if you do not use it all!

I see your logic, but our budget was hoping we could spend 1 day at Universal, park hop if we decided to, go back an extra day if we felt like it, and all for around $300. Things always cost more in reality than in your dreams, right? $500 to leave Disney for a day or 2 when we already have tickets to WDW, I don't know, $250 to only get half the fun, doesn't seem like a good deal either. I was hoping there would be more choices that would better suit our needs.

I feel your pain dbond. Just a quick question. Do you plan to return within a year? If so, consider buying the AP which has some blackout dates for $99. per person. With that pass comes some discounts, and unlimited admission to both parks (except for those pesky blackout dates). It would still cost the $500, but you could use it again next year.

Also, depending on the age of the kiddos, consider only doing Islands of Adventure. The park may surprise you and your family as to how much you enjoy it. We were Disney diehards, but IOA is a great park, and one that you may want to sepnd more than one day at.

I wonder if they let you buy a one day admission, and then switch over to an AP if you really wanted to come back?
