We plan to be in Universal Jan. 27-29, 2013. Last time we went we stayed at the Royal Pacific and it was great - nice hotel, walk to parks was awesome, universal express was a great perk. This time I am wondering if we should stay off-site and save a little $$. Being that it's January, I am sure the universal express won't really be needed, and that's really all you get with staying on-site over off-site. The Drury Inn is a new hotel and it is very highly rated on Trip Advisor, I am wondering if anyone has any experience with that hotel. Also - my biggest concern is the transportation, I am worried that there will be very few shuttles per day and if it is full, we need to wait an hour. What experience does everyone have with the off-site shuttles? Also, the Fairfield Inn says it is walking distance right across the street, is it worth it to stay there?

We've stayed at the Drury Inn in Charlotte and it is fabulous.

The closest recommended off-site hotels are the Doubletree, Hyatt Place and the Holiday Inn and suites closest to Universal. These are all within walking distance.

The others are a little further away and aren't as nice.

You will enjoy Drury Inn!

If you have ever stayed at one, they are all like the other D.I. In the states.

I think once the word gets out about this hotel, many will be using it.

I'm going to move this thread from the Universal Resorts board to the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board. You might get more responses since you're asking about an offsite hotel.

I haven't stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Florida but I have used it NJ, right next to the airport and it was a very nice hotel for the $. It was inexpensive but very nice rooms and great location near the airport. I would go to Tripadvisor and see what they say about that specific Fairfield Inn. I was very impressed since I only paid $79 a night, it had a small living area and king size bed and it was very comfortable. HTH, have a great trip. :thumbsup2
