We have never done Universal, starting to plan for a trip late 2015.

We are Disney veterans
We plan to stay on site at universal - how many days are recommended to see both parks at a relaxed pace?

We are thinking 4 days at universal and then heading to disney.

That is more than plenty. I am not a show person and have no kids so take that into consideration. Being a vet I can do both parks in one day. But if I wanted to experience everything and had no knowledge I would say even 3 days would be enough but 4 definitely is.

I would say 3 is plenty. That gives one full day at each park and a third day to re-do anything you want. Staying on site at one of the deluxe hotels, you will have unlimited express pass which will speed things along. You do miss some of the awesome que lines though, so if the regular line isn't too long I would try it.

Well, I can easily spend 7 days at US/IOA, but I love to just meander and poke around into the out of the way spots.

At a minimum I would do 3 days.

Since it looks like you're planning to stay on-site I would do the Universal portion of your trip last. The first time we did a split stay we did Universal first and then moved over to WDW. Our children kept asking when we could go back to Universal. The lines at WDW were "too long" and the rides were "lame" (I have thrill ride junkies.) After that we started doing WDW first and Universal last which worked out much better. The adults also liked the fact that we didn't have to be at the parks at rope drop to see/do everything we wanted to fit in.

We do 4 park days. That gives us 2 days in each park and leisurely , stop-and-smell the roses touring with plenty of resort downtime..I recommend 3 days minimum.1 for each park and 1 for repeats

We can do a full week at Universal too! We love the resorts and the pools at the resorts (you can pool hop!!). We do 3-4 days at the parks, and then 2-3 days enjoying the resorts, Citywalk, etc. There is a ticket that you can get for very little additional $ that also gets you admission to Wet & Wild waterpark. My kids love that place!

If you're choosing between 3 days at one of the top tier hotels that give you front of the line passes vs. 4 days at Cabana Bay (which does not), I would go with the 3 days and FOL.
