DH and I are taking our DD's (11 & 17) to visit the Universal Parks in late July/ early August. I'm wondering if we should try the Meal Deal i.e. pay $19.99, get the wristband and eat as often as we like as select locations in each park.

Here's the link:

Has anyone tried it? I've looked at the info on the Universal website and it's not as detailed as I would like. What kind of meals are available? Is this good value for money? Sounds like a good deal to me, but I wouldn't mind getting some feedback...

Thanks in advance for your input

I think most people on here would say that unless you like to eat a lot, it's probably not a good deal. The food is good but pretty much standard theme park fare...burgers, chicken, pizza, etc. Although Louie's is on the meal deal, there are other places that have better food that are not on the meal deal. I always recommend Mythos and Thunder Falls Terrace at IOA and Louie's and Finnegan's at the Studios. Based on your family's eating habits, you will have to decide if eating all day would be worth to you.

Dh and I tried it once a few yrs ago. Our kids were very small then and would split an adult meal so we didn't get it for them. It was ok but not such a great deal. It was late Sept and the parks closed at 6pm. Since the participating restaurants close 30 mins before the parks, we had to eat dinner at 5:30 at the latest. We just weren't that hungry so soon after lunch but felt we should eat just to get a 2nd meal out on the plan.

We also felt limited as to where we could eat. When we were hungry and passed a place to eat, it seemed it was never the ones we needed to go to.

I have a coworker who has 3 teens/young adults, (2 boys, 1 girl) They def got their $$ worth.
My ds12 is beginning to get a teen appetite so we're rethinking it for our Labor Day weekend visit.

I'd rather just buy lunch in the park and go to City Walk for dinner. jmho

We tried it once at IOA and would not do it again. We were limited to 3 counter service restaurants and you need to eat at least two meals and maybe a snack for the deal to pay for itself. We kind of had to force ourselves to have the 2nd meal.

i'm always in the minority on this question.

for the trips i stay 6 days at universal, i buy the meal deal one day only.

i only do Louie's for the pizza and salad and also IFFF for the fried chicken and chinese dish and the big fresh fruit salad.

i definitely get my money's worth.

i eat at those places anyhow when i am in the park so the meal deal makes it cheaper for me on the day i do it.

i order pizza for the last time 30 minutes before Louie's closes down and take it with me back to the hotel.

the other days i eat at finnegans a couple of time, mythos and city walk places besides the hotel restaurants.

i went back and forth on the meal deal, because it did sound like a good idea. but after more consideration, (and reading posts here), i figured it's not worth it for us, because we are not big eaters. I agree with the people who say for teens, (or anyone with a big appetite) it's a great deal. so we are going to US/IOA next week, and i decided to scrap the meal deal idea.

WE got it a few weeks ago when the parks were open a little later for memorial day weekend. Then during the week when the parks closed earlier, we only got it for the 1 or 2 of the younger kids. (Both beginning of the week...only littlest later in week) One loves pasta so was in heaven with spaghetti as often as she wanted. The other....seriously...he ate 2-3 pizzas per day all week. We TRIED to get him to order something else....nope...her was in heaven! :rotfl2:(He's the one that got one all week. His seems to need to eat way more often than the rest of us.) Oh and with the kids having meal deals, we were able to keep refilling the meal deal cups for free! YAY! :)

I think we may get it atleast one day of our 6 days at universal. It is my understanding that the parks will be open until 9pm on the week we are there, so we can start the meal deal around lunch time and eat unlimited until 30 min prior to park close at the 3 participating locations. I think the day we decide to hit the parks hard and stay open to close, it would be worth it to us. But, I wouldn't want to do it everyday!
