Hello. Let me start out by saying I'm an uber planner before we go on trips so that when we are there I'm not unprepared. We have never been to universal. On another thread I started today someone mentioned trying not to take a backpack or too much stuff into Universal. We are going in late January and are not staying onsite as I've rented a condo. I have some questions.

1.) Is this the case at both Universal Studios and USIOA?
2.) I didn't see any water rides at US. Am I missing anything?
3.) Looks like 3 water rides at USIOA. is this correct?
4.) We were thinking for this day about renting a locker up front for the entire day and carrying around very little. We have a 3 p.m. late lunch at Mythos and thought maybe after this we would go to the locker and actually change into bathing suits and ride these rides last before headed back to the condo. Does this make any sense weather permitting?
5. ) How much are the full day lockers?
6.) I've read that the Bilge rat barges soak you. Is this the case with the other two or is it mostly that one? I guess my question is are ponchos enough "cover" for any of these or are they no match for those rides?

Sorry to be so wordy.

Thanks,
Debbie

1.) Is this the case at both Universal Studios and USIOA? yes, there are rides in both parks, that no bags are allowed, there are free small lockers at these rides

2.) I didn't see any water rides at US. Am I missing anything? No, water rides at US

3.) Looks like 3 water rides at USIOA. is this correct? Yes, you could also get a little wet on One Fish, Two Fish

Good idea, I would have towels too.

5. ) How much are the full day lockers? IDK

6.) I've read that the Bilge rat barges soak you. Is this the case with the other two or is it mostly that one? I guess my question is are ponchos enough "cover" for any of these or are they no match for those rides? A poncho may help, but I wouldn't count on it. We were drenched from head to toe (we didn't use ponchos)Sorry to be so wordy.

Thanks,
Debbie

I have only been once, so maybe someone with more knowledge will come along. We had a great time, hope you do also.

We wore ponchos and were nearly drenched! Universal doesn't even kid that might not get wet on water rides. If they thought about it, they would probably hire people to just dump barrels of water on you as you enter and exit the ride, that's how serious they are about getting you wet. It's pretty hilarious, once you just accept it.

The problem with lockers is that if you need something, you have to trek alllll the way back to them. Mythos is well in the park, so you're either going to have to make a trek, or plan your day so you're already near your locker with time enough to change.

Wanted to chime in that the Dudley Do-Right flume ride will also drench you...at least it does for me. As far as a bathing suit...keep in mind that if you dress down all the way to your bathing suit you may get stopped by someone asking you to cover up. It is considered a "family park" and wearing nothing but a bathing suit isn't considered "family appropriate".

PP's got pretty much everything right... I also do not know how much the lockers cost. Doesn't hurt to call UO and ask! :thumbsup2

from the UO website:

Locker Rental

Lockers are available within each of the theme parks for guest rental for $8.00 per day, with family size lockers available at Universal Studios Florida for $10.00 per day. Guests have unlimited access to these lockers during the course of the day. Additional lockers are available at Universal's Islands of Adventure® for $2.00 per hour, with a $14.00 per day maximum.

These lockers are available at the entrance of the following attractions:
- The Incredible Hulk Coaster®
- Dragon Challenge™
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™
- Jurassic Park River Adventure®
- Revenge of the Mummy®
- MEN IN BLACK™ Alien Attack™

NOTE: The lockers at The Incredible Hulk Coaster and Dragon Challenge™ are free for at least the first 45 minutes (time may vary - check with the individual attractions for specific length of time).

the family lockers that are located at the front of the park are large and hold a lot of items.
they are well worth using.

No water rides at US but if you have a little kid there is a splash area in the kiddie section.

You will get totally drenched on Rip Saw Falls and the rafts. Even if weather is warm the water will be freezing in January. However, they are super fun rides. I would bring a change of clothes in the locker (long walk to them) and ride the rides last. Ponchos won't save you lol. It's still fun though!

Btw, Mythos = yumm!

This made me laugh only because the days of me dressing down all the way to a bathing suit are way over. It would be more like board shorts and a tank top. At this point I honestly don't see us doing that. I think if it is warm enough to even get on the water rides, we will just rent a locker and put an entire set of extra clothes in there to change into after we have exhausted all the wet rides. Does that sound like a better idea? My husband is still planning on wearing the cargo shorts with our camera, money, etc in there for the rest of the day.

Okay, thanks so much. Scratching the entire idea of ponchos and bringing extra changes of clothes. Mythos is at 3 pm. so if (big if) it is warm enough to even consider getting splashed with freezing water we will do the locker and ride the wet rides at the end of the day. I am really not a fan of wet clothes so I will avoid super wet rides but this is the first time my kids are going to universal and I see no point in short changing them on fun rides just for the slight inconvenience of changing clothes afterwards.

The main reason for not bringing a big bag to the parks is that a few rides won;t allow them and require you to lock them in a locker. They can't be left on the ride platforms.I bring a backpack for Disney, but for our first Universal trip coming up I am bringing NADA..Only a small ,3 prong waist pack.

Good idea! Also, they have these "human blow dryer" things right off the rides, mainly Dudley Do-Right. It's $5 and you step into this huge thing that blows warm air on you and I think it's for 5 minutes. Really comes in handy.

I don't think anybody mentioned that you also get a tad wet on Jurassic Park. Just a little splash, nothing major.

I hope it's warm enough for you! I love the rides but if it's too cold (for me that's anything below 85! :lmao:) I won't go near them. It's been pretty warm though lately, been having pretty great weather, in the 70's. Although today it's in the 40's! :scared1: It's supposed to warm back up though in a couple days. When is your trip?
