Hello,
My husband and I and our 12 year old twin boys will be visiting Universal and IOA 4/11 through 4/18. Our last park day will be 4/17 (Easter week). We will be staying at Westgate Lakes, about 3.5 mi away from Universal, will have a rental car, and will not have express passes. We do not plan on visiting any other parks.
Most of what I have read suggests arriving before park opening, as crowds will be high. I have subscribed to and will be using touringplans.com. As opposed to early arrival, could we as easily reduce wait times by arriving late afternoon and staying until park closing? It has been my observation elsewhere that crowds lower after 3-4 pm. Would arriving after 2 be a better idea than arriving before opening? My boys are night owls, so staying late would bother none of us.
But if the best crowd strategy would be arriving before opening I would do that. I imagine though that many who do that leave the park late afternoon.
Also, how bad is traffic getting into the park before opening the week of Easter? I am wondering about how long I should expect from the time we leave the hotel to the time we are standing at the Universal entrance.
Any advice is appreciated. My boys love thrill rides and look forward to the Harry Potter attractions. We plan on visiting both parks at least 5 days.
Thanks. I would appreciate any all all advice, and any info about Westgate Lakes if anyone would like to share their experience about that also.
