Am I missing something? I booked our trip for June 21-26 2009. Our hotel at Royal Pacific for 5 nights before tax is around $738 for the super saver rate, then, I'm planning on buying the unlimited park passes for $99 each (there are 3 of us), putting our pre-tax total to $1035. The vacation packages show hotel for the same 5 nights, same room type and only 2 theme park tickets for $1400, so I would have to buy another ticket for $99 for 3rd person and that would put our total to $1500. Am I missing something? That is almost $500 more than booking hotel separately!

On a side note, I play the spin and win everyday on universal orlando's website hoping I will win 1 ticket and only have to buy 2 more. Anyone else played and won?

I've found that you usually do better booking everything separately rather than as a package.

If you're a AAA member and have a local office check there for your tickets. I bought mine for $100/each (no taxes).

Your not missing anything cause to book the package thru universal is always higher and cheaper just to book seperate cause we are staying at RPR on june 21-28 and with 2 tickets we are paying $1341.80 but to buy the package thru universal it is $2218.86
Which save me $877.06 and to most that doesn't seem like alot but we are always on a tight budget and that means the savings gives us extra spending money that we wouldn't normally had.

Thanks for the input! Hey KY07 - looks like we will be there the same week (except you are staying a couple days longer than us) ! I noticed you are from Kentucky. We are in Southern Illinois about 1 hour from Paducah Ky. It would take us about 14 hours to drive to Orlando, so we are flying. How 'bout you - drive or fly?

i'm staying at rph also for five nights in the fall.
my total room cost including tax is $857.20

by buying the tickets separate, you would still come out to under $1400.

when you buy a package, all in the room get the ticket which you don't need for this trip.

if you bought the package, cancel and book room only.
then buy the tickets separate.

once you break down the costs, it will be a rare time that the package is to your advantage.

i did the package once due to that.
all other times, i book room only.

and one more shout out for paducah il and wickliffe, ky

We are flying cause I think its about the same for us and with back problems I have its too long of a drive for me .
only bad thing about flying lately is how the nickel and dime ya for just about everything :headache:

yes they do nickle and dime you (pick your seat $6, check a bag $15 etc) We usually fly SouthWest from either St Louis, Mo or Nashville, TN, but this year we found better rates on AirTran ($79 each way) and are flying out of St Louis (our closest airport, about 2 hours away)

I hear you on that cause our closest airport is only 40 mins away but the ony airlines that fly out of there is delta, northwest,us airways and ameican airlines and they do have a new airline that just started there and I think its allegiant or something like that and they have $79.00 each way and is nonstop and all the flights are at night but they only fly to sanford not MCO .
So if things get tight money wise for next year thats probably who we will use next year
