Hi....I will be travelling to CA in October with my 17 yr old daughter. We will visit Disney for a few days and want to spend a day at Universal Studios.

I am wondering which hotel is better and for what reasons. The Sheraton or the Hilton next to Universal? I have reservations for 2 nights at both and will cancel one of them. The Hilton is about $50 less expensive and appears to be slightly closer if I read correctly.

Does anyone have any experience or opinions on either?

Thanks!

Kelly

Do you have a loyalty program account? I have both Hilton Honors and Starwood.........you can see who is running a better promotion.

I don't see any promotions unless you use points and I don't have any. I do have a Hilton Honors card but hardly ever stay there. The AAA rate is $213/night for when we will be there.

Hilton is nicer, but I'd stay at the Loews Hollywood over either of those. There is no place at all to go beside CityWalk from those hotels.

Loews Hollywood is where the Academy Awards take place (Dolby Theater), there are good restaurants near by and some shops in the mall.

Thanks for the help. The reason I was choosing either of those 2 hotels was because I thought they were considered onsite hotels and had a shuttle so I wouldn't have to drive.

We are staying one night in Hollywood a few days before the Universal part of our trip.

I am not familiar with hotels at all in that area and just wanted it to be convenient, I didn't want to have to park the car at Universal and have the headache of doing it and paying the parking fee.

I think Loews may be 100 or so more a night as well.

The hotels are onsite and you just walk across the street.

But, the park, CityWalk and the hotels are on top of a hill, very isolated.

If you were at the Loews, or someplace else in Hollywood, you'd take the subway one stop from Hollywood & Highland to Universal City and then a shuttle takes you to the top of the hill.

That is easier than switching hotels for one night I think.

So the park is just across the street from the hotels? They said they provide a shuttle...is it even needed? Maybe the shuttle takes you to the park entrance.

Yeah...I agree with that not having to change hotels is a perk...but we are actually staying one night in Hollywood, then driving to Disney for 3 nights, then back to Universal.

I know this sounds like a strange plan but the reason I am doing that is because I don't want to stay in Hollywood after Disney because we want to do the Warner Brothers studio tour....and it would be on Columbus Day. I did it once on Columbus Day and while it was a good tour, the guide said it was pretty slow because of the holiday. I am hoping by going the Friday before, maybe there will be more action that day.

Does that all make sense? So, we will only be 1 night in Hollywood and just seeing a few sights and then doing the studio tour.

While at Universal, we are just there to do Universal...so we will check into hotel and sleep, go to the park the next day, and back to hotel that night, get up next morning and head to San Diego. We are just there for the park and want it to be as convenient as possible as that is the reason we are there,

Thanks again for your help...I appreciate it.

Here is a Google Map that shows the hotels and the park, the area with the turnaround is the entrance to the parks. It is a little uphill, but you are talking a few hundred yards from the hotel to the park.

How fun!

Wow...thanks for the map. The Hilton does look closer. I think I see the turnaround on the map...is it marked with a star? It doesn't look very far although I know maps can be deceiving. How far from the Hilton to the gates do you think? I am wondering if we would even need a shuttle for this. You said it is uphill to the gate?

About 2/10s of a mile so 400 yards??
