Home delivery copies of today's Orlando Sentinel (Friday, August 8) included a sticker/pass redeemable for a Universal CityWalk Party Pass. Valid for Florida residents only, the Pass gets you into all of the clubs at CityWalk for one night and has a value around $12. It is valid until 12/31/08.

Unfortunately the Sentinel editions at newsstands that I checked did not include the sticker since I would have bought at least 10 more. Apparently this was for home delivery editions only......LOCALS.

Clearly this is the first salvo by Universal to get locals to make CityWalk their new "partying" location once Pleasure Island closes. There is a lot of speculation about where current PI regulars are going to go and it looks like Universal wants us.

Bravo to Universal for recognizing that if Disney is going to give up hundreds and hundreds of local customers for free, they're happy to take them! And what better way to introduce or re-introduce locals to CityWalk than giving them a free ticket!

If they really wanted to stick it to Disney they would accept Disney premium annual passes, and PI annual passes at CityWalk.

If they advertised that in the Sentinel... It would be interesting.

Hey, more power to CityWalk.........

Put in the Adventurers Club and I'll go. Otherwise, no. CityWalk doesn't have an equivalent.

I'm not a Florida resident anyway.

That's excellent! Thanks for sharing! :teeth:

Like that's gonna happen. :rotfl:

That's true now but maybe down the road Universal will look into something along that line. You never know.

Certainly this will be a stop for me on my upcoming "Goodbye P-Eye" trip ... on Sunday, September 28th, I believe I'll be visiting Citywalk to try it for the first time.

I'm sure Disney dosen't mind that CityWalk will be getting this extra business. They must have assumed that would happen anyway.

I would have to agree I still would have no need to go to CW without something like AC. That would have to be the draw for us. But then we would probably actually renew our USO AP's, whether they were tied together or not.
Canadian Guy -- I see we have the same AC plans, including Pop. Maybe we will run into each other. :wizard:

The Groove used to play a lot of techno but it's now mostly hip hop. Red Coconut has either a band or DJ and has a lot of potential. DJ Baby Ann has been playing there Tuesday nights this summer but that ends soon.

Your "Goodbye P-Eye" trip is after PI closes?

I think you'll have a good time even w/o the AC. It's a great night time atmosphere! :thumbsup2

Give me techno or give me death!

Uh, I doubt Walt would have approved of the concept of PI to begin with.......It isn't something the family could do together, and as I recall from the old news footage, his whole idea for his parks were supposed to be places where families could spend time together.

Yes, I agree that Walt wanted "family friendly" entertainment for his parks. As much as I will miss the dance clubs, I can at least accept that. But, as for the AC and the CW, those clubs are "family friendly". There are kids there all the time and the cast incorporates them into the show. Kids have a blast there! So IF they have to close down PI, at least only shut it down from those two clubs back. Leave us SOMETHING!!

I have read several times that the AC is kid friendly..
I do NOT see where it is. We love spending the night at the AC, but to be honest I would never bring kids there. The comedy is great... for adults.
I'm not even that comfortable being there with someone elses kids in the room.

I would agree on the point that AC is NOT for kids. It is more of an "adult" form of comedy.

I think that depends on several things. . . the earliest show, the Welcome Party, is completely family friendly in my opinion. I've taken my son to that several times and would again if I could. As the evening progresses it's a little less family friendly. I wouldn't feel comfortable keeping my son there all evening but some people do. Certainly I've never seen anything at the Club that's worse than the sort of thing that's on primetime television (or even as bad as alot of TV, frankly.) Lots of double entendres but they'd go over most kids' heads unless they already know what the stuff means.

And I've got to say I find the "Walt wouldn't approve" idea funny. My son is almost a teenager, so we can do things as a family that my sister in law and her husband can't do with their four year old. Should WDW only offer things that every family can do together? If that's the case then all the rides with height limits need to go. Plus Victoria and Alberts and the cigar bar at DTD, as well as all the hotel lounges.

And of course my son is too large for the Pooh play area in Fantasyland, or the kids' areas in the water parks, so we can't do those as a family - I guess they should get rid of them, too.

My family didn't enjoy the dance clubs, but that doesn't mean that other families didn't like them. Who am I -or you - to say what other families should enjoy? Or are we only considering families with small children? Isn't a married couple with kids or a couple with grown children still a family? They certainly aren't going to use many of the things aimed at families with small kids, but I haven't heard them campaining for all the kid-centric things to be removed in favor of things that they would use.

The parks - and the resort as a whole - are supposed to be places that families can enjoy together. That doesn't mean that everything in each park or throughout the entire WDW resort has to appeal to every member of every family. And wasn't it Walt himself who came up with the idea for Club 33, the one place in Disneyland where alcohol is served? It certainly wasn't designed with kids in mind.

USO can have that crowd...and all the' fun' that goes with them.

You're talking to a lot of "that crowd" now..

Personally, I couldn't care less about the dance clubs. You can find good dance clubs in any city in the US.

On the other hand, The Adventurers' Club is truly unique. It's Disney imagination at it's finest. It's more of a Disney show that happens to serve alcohol.

I will miss it when it's gone.

And, let's be fair, there are a lot of "not that crowd" as well. In the end, as I said in another post, Disney will do what Disney wants to do. And I really do not think we can change the mind of a huge corp.,without several hundred thousand signatures on a petition. They would have to feel that their bottom line was going to be adversely affected over all. Time will tell...........

While I'm sure there are some here that dislike PI, the vast majority of posts I have read here want the AC & CW to remain as is.

I'm confused as to why those who don't like it, would want it gone for those of us who do like it??
I mean, I don't like certain attractions at WDW, but I don't think they should be closed simply because I don't like them... Afterall, other guests DO like them.

What am I missing here??
