I don't use their app much cause frankly.. It's not very good.

But if I remember correctly, you have to scan your ap card. It's not automatic

It does show up in the App. And you can see the expiration.

Not sure what you mean by activating discounts? Food/merch? Mobile order?

For hotel discounts, you just go to the AP rate link, you do not need the AP in hand to see or book the AP rate.
