Universal AP redemption question

Hi there! We are considering adding a couple of days at Universal on to our Feb Disney trip. We are interested in getting AP's because we feel we would plan a Universal only trip later in the year and not have to buy tickets for that trip. We are traveling with our son (20) who is deaf and non-verbal with Autism and does not have a driver's license. Usually his birth certificate and school ID with picture/medical ID card has been sufficient for our travels (Disney, closed loop cruises or city visits only). If I buy Universal Annual Passes what is needed to redeem them at the gate or do they just get uploaded to the app and we finger print on first entry? I'm having trouble finding info on the actual process of buying an AP online as far as what is needed once we get there.

Yes, we will get him a state ID but please don't tell me to do this and lecture me on the importance of him having an ID. I know it is important but taking him to the DMV for an extended day of waiting in line is beyond what he can handle. I'm simply looking for information about the AP purchase process. Thank you in advance!

Buy them online, print the paper they email you, take that paper to will call, get your pass (you will need credit card you used to buy them), head to the gate.

We never showed id this time, but we have been asked in the past, but with your situation, I would not worry about it and deal with it at the gate if it comes up.

As for getting the id, I would call them and explain the situation and see if they will set up an appointment, which they should be easily willing to do.

When we activated our APs in November, we all had to show ID except my 14-year-old. I would assume an exception would be made, but it was required and took a little longer to get through the turnstiles than it did when we activated our tickets (which we upgraded at Guest Services to APs)

We just activated our AP on 12/21 at the concierge desk in city walk. I had my email confirmation printed, my ID and credit card out. She didn't ask to see my husbands ID. When we got my nephews on 12/27 guest services just asked how old he was (16) and didn't ask for ID.
