My son is now 3 and requires an AP. Cheapest I can find is $280 + tax on the Universal website. Anyone know of any cheaper options to purchase a new preferred AP?

I wouldn't buy a preferred AP for a 3 yr old. No reason to. Only one in your party has to have the preferred to get free parking and food discounts, etc. Everybody else can have the power pass.

Is there a particular reason you want to buy the preferred for a child?

Yes I have the preferred and it has a lot of advantages to the power pass like no blackout dates. The only advice I can give you as far as getting a cheaper price is to look for a promotion to get a discount. Also if you plan to renew it when it expires the price is much cheaper, like I just renewed my preferred for $159 plus tax.I remember when I first got my annual passes for Universal back like 14 years ago Burger King had constant promotions for buy one year get a second year free, and back then the regular price for a preferred pass was like $150 and $99 to renew,Universal has gotten very popular over the last couple of years and prices have shot up along with their popularity.I have a friend who bought the Premier pass which is the most expensive annual pass and it does have a couple of benefits over the preferred like a free non peak Halloween Horror Nights ticket, free express after 4pm,free valet parking and like 8 free bottles of water but it's like $100 or more than the preferred which works just fine for me.

How long are you going to be in the parks? I have a preferred AP, and my kids have discounted 4 or 3 day park to park tickets, depending on what our visit is. Child's rate is cheaper than adult, and AAA, Undercovertourist, and other places may have discounted regular tickets that may be cheaper than an AP.

The magic ages of 3 and 9 is fustrating, as each time, your kids cost you more!

We usually visit at least a couple times a year and head to US at least twice per visit. It's nice with the AP's as you don't have to sweat it out all day, especially once it gets crowded - you can just leave and come back another day rather than fight the crowds. If I get a 2-park ticket twice in a year, I've basically paid for an AP anyway but without the convenience of an AP.

Checked with AAA in Kissimmee today and going thru them would save me ~$6 :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

I do not know of a cheaper way, at least until when you renew it and it's soooo much cheaper then. :)
