A friend and I sort of planned a crazy trip to Universal. We are flying in just to spend the day. Now...with the weather...he doesn't want to go anymore. For those of you in Orlando....how is the weather going to be? Are the majority of the rides still open (i.e. Hulk, Dueling dragons) even in the rain?

Would any of you go solo? I'm pretty sure he isn't going and it is too late (and expensive) to get someone else. So I'm debating whether I should still go.

Thanks for any help! :)

I walk around the parks solo sometimes. It is alot more fun with someone else, but I also can't do everything I want like ride the Hulk 8 times in a row when someone else is with me.
The rides will close if there is any lightening close by, but that usually doesn't last very long, so that shouldn't be much of a problem.
Either way, you'll have fun!

Our Naples 1100 Katrina Advisory perdicts 34kt winds Fri.-0930/Sat-0600 with 7-7.75" of rain and an extra 2' on normal tide. Keep in mind we are 200 miles south of the Hulk and only 5 miles from the projected eye. We are still going to the Bucs/Dolphins Game in Miami Saturday. :umbrella:

We're also going this weekend, and I'm determined to have fun no matter what the weather. Heck, it always rains in the afternoon anyway, and we've always survived it - just make sure to bring a rain poncho. I've also gone to the parks by myself - it can get a little lonely, but you don't have to wait for anyone and can follow your own agenda.

Regarding the weather, it looks like one day will be a wash, but whether it's Saturday or Sunday depends on what station/web-site you get information from. Here's a great weather link I got from a friend: http://www.crownweather.com/tropical.html

Good luck with your decision!

I've been hearing on the news stations that we are expected to be hit by a tropical storm or possibly Category 1 hurricane tomorrow and Saturday. We won't get the eye but should get some pretty messy weather.

The rains have already begun and so far they have been pretty heavy---not just your regular summer afternoon storms. The wind has been pretty strong also.

Yeah, Phamton, I know what you mean. I caught some of that hard rain and wind earlier when I went on my lunch break. There were a couple of strong gusts there!

The Miami Weather Service Office is saying we could get 15-20" localized rainfall. We might have to airboat to Miami. :fish:
Just last weekend I removed the tree and jacuzzi that it landed on from Charley. The difference now? I have insurance! :sunny:

Orlando won't get the worst of the storm, but I'm sure they'll see plenty of rain. In thunderstorms, you'll only have problems with the outdoor rides closing. Anything indoors should remain open. (USF is a great rainy weather park)

As for going solo, I enjoying solo trips quite often. I like the freedom of being able to do what I want to do when I want to do it.

Thanks everyone! I think I might go ahead and go....even alone. Maybe I can see some shows and things I've never been able to catch!

The hurricane is due to "make land" around 8pm today, depending on when you would be leaving, it shouldn't be too large to mess with plans. By Saturday, it should already be in the gulf of mexico. I'd say enjoy. It's going to rain, be a bit windy, but nothing crazy. It's suppose to make landfall near the Dade/Broward line area.

I'm heading over on Sunday with an IOA "virgin" and can't wait to see his face on the coasters. They won't close the outdoor rides unless lightning strikes within five miles of the parks. Riding the coasters in the rain is painful though...but fun!

I have been following the weather. Katrina dipped south last night, and today we were supposed to get rained on, but because of the southern turn, we got none. It has also gone farther west than expected, decreasing it's effects on the Orlando area. I think you'll be fine. You might get a shower, but that's how Florida is, hurricane or no hurricane.
