This is probably a stupid question BUT doing can you explain to me how you are doing the unity candle ceremony... ? I'm almost positive I have it mapped out .. minus decided the song..

The lighting of the Unity Candle symbolizes the bride and groom joining as one. This rite commonly has the following structure:


Prior to the wedding ceremony, a large single Unity Candle and two slimmer tapers are placed at the front of the aisle.
After the exchange of vows and rings, the couple moves to the area where the candles have been readied. Two honored participants, one representing each side of the family (usually the bride’s mother and the groom’s mother), come forward and light the individual tapers for their children. Alternatively, the single tapers may be lit prior to the ceremony.
The bride takes her lighted taper; the groom takes his lighted taper.
Simultaneously, the bride and groom use their individual tapers to light the single large Unity Candle between them.
The bride and groom extinguish their tapers and return them to their holders.
Two popular variations on this tradition have also developed:

Those who wish to place a greater emphasis on their continuing individuality may opt not to extinguish the individual tapers. Instead, the three lit candles stand as a celebration of the bride and groom as individuals, as well as of their union.

Couples who are bringing children into the marriage may choose to have additional tapers representing the children, who can come forward and join in the lighting of the Unity Candle.

We are going to be doing a Unity Candle Ceremony with my DFI's DD11 included. Hopefully this weekend we are going to the ceramics place and she is going to make the candle holder for us. It is really special.

We also did candle on the water. For me, it was a tribute to my late grandmother because we watched pete's drangon all the time.

We are using "All I ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera. I've only seen the musical 6 times so I'm a bit of a fan. My mom is as well and I know it'll make her cry her eyes out. =P

Not a Disney bride so I am sure you know this, but can you bring your own?? I made ours from a pillar candle at Michael's and tied some ribbon around it. Very inexpensive. For our song, we used "One Hand, One Heart" from West Side Story.

One of my friend's at her wedding had her MOH sing "Heavenly Day" by Patty Griffin during the unity candle and it was the standout moment of the ceremony. After they lit the candle, they just sort of knelt together while she finished singing, it was very peaceful and moving. The lyrics were perfect for them, as the groom was being deployed to Iraq shortly after the wedding.

Forget all our troubles in these moments so few
Oh we can, right now the only thing that we really have to do
Is have ourselves a heavenly day"

(her husband is home safe and sound now by the way!)

I think you just have to find something very personal or special to you. HTH!!

That's what I did, and posted pics in my PJ. Cost me less than $10 for the pillar, two tapers, holders, and decorations.
