Question about United economy plus seating.....

I am currently in economy and was curious if I can choose an economy plus seat at check in if one is available or do they upgrade all of their fliers with status to E+ first?

I am just curious. My only other flights on United had us in E+ because they made a last minute equipment change which moved our seating assignments....

I know I can purchase an upgrade to E+, but I don't want to do that now as I may end up changing these flights (booked with miles) and I don't want to lose that money...

You can book even the day before if seats are available or you can book at the airport its all due to availability the only people who'd get upgraded are star alliance or 1K members etc.

But alot of flights ive been on there are ones available. But if you know a week in advance you are keeping in the flights check and purchase then.

Thanks.... I have two 1 hour flights and a 4+ hour flight in there (ORD-SFO). I was thinking of moving up for the long flight....

Well, they upgraded DH to +, since he has whatever-it's-called status now with them. So it does seem that they try to do that (and if they need room in coach and have room in first, they'll upgrade the + people to that!) for the + people...

Good luck getting the seat you want!!!

I am flying MSP-ORD-SFO-RNO in June. I am using miles, so had to take the best available... my buddy got MSP-DEN-RNO and I booked 1 second after him and got my routing......

I love airport and flying, so I am looking forward to seeing SFO since it will be new to me. I have about an hour and a half on the ground there.... only 45 minutes at ORD, but if everything is on time I will be fine..... I have been thru ORD so many times I don't have a need to stop and look at things there.....

I was disappointed when I flew thru DFW last year. I had less than 20 minutes to connect and all I saw was a the blur of the terminal as I ran from one get to the next!

Travel safe!

They have a display of sci fi stuff in one area, and model airplanes in another at SFO.
RNO is pretty small Ive flown there a few times (Basically i fly into the cheapest airport for Sacramento where i live part of the year and Sacramento is always so pricey)

Yeah I hear ya on ORD im so sick of it there isnt that much to look at either especially in the united terminal.

You can if it is available and you are willing to pay.

do they upgrade all of their fliers with status to E+ first?

If you have status on United, you are allowed to chose seats in E+ when you buy your ticket. You are not "upgraded."

You usually have to be an elite member or be traveling with an elite member or pay for an E+ upgrade, and if you have only paid for E seats, it's unlikely you will be moved to E+ for free. I fly United all the time and I often see a fairly empty E+ section and a packed E section.
