Unique Waitlist Situation

I got 2 different answers from Member Services on this so now I'm second guessing myself...I have a ressie AKL CL studio for 2 nts, then AKL value studio for last 3 nts (consecutively). I have enough points that I have to use or lose to waitlist 1 more night of AKL CL (longshot I know)...so can I waitlist the 1st night of the AKL value studio stay for AKL CL without compromising the last 2 nts? Online chat rep said no, if the waitlist comes through for that 1st night & changes it to AKL CL, it cancels the remaining value studio nights. So I called Member Services & they said yes I can waitlist that one night, if it comes through just that night will be replaced with AKL CL, the remaining 2 nights will stay AKL value (which would give me 3 separate ressie numbers).

If it can be done, can it be done online? Not sure what to do when I get to the "Do you want to replace an existing reservation..." I only want to replace 1 night of an existing reservation, but if I say no do not replace, it will then borrow points from next year to create a new ressie, and I don't want to do that either. Because of the exclusivity of both room categories, I don't want to mess this up!

You can put in the request online. Say nothing for the replace existing reservation part, and then call up member services and have them add a note that says "replace first night of xyz reservation, keeping the last two nights". They can do this.

People will also tell you this is risky and that member services screw things up with waitlists all the time.

However, this is exactly what I did to get four nights at Beach club this October. I had a one day waitlist, and when it came in they would shorten my Animal Kingdom reservation by one night, and lengthen my Beach Club stay by one night. It worked three times, no problem! Each time I called member services to add a note to my waitlist to say "just cancel the last night of my AKV reservation".

And there's also been more than one report of an entire booking being replaced with a single night waitlist. In the end it's a person who finalizes the waitlist so there will always be a risk they don't see the note.

When a waitlist matches it is removed from the Dashboard but still shows in the waitlist section. If you could keep an eye on that and if it did match then call in to get a CM to complete the match and verify to just replace the one night that would help. But While I've had a match take more than a couple of weeks to be finalized I've also had it finalize within an hour or two of matching so it might be missed.

It probably would work fine but the question you need to ask is "what if they cancel all the nights?".

Thanks for your replies, you have the same concerns that I do. Add to that I just realized I'm a point short - so it would involve borrowing 1 point from next year - which is fine - but just adds another layer to this & more risk to get messed up - I think I will just leave it be!
