Union Pacific Challenger No. 3985 - Steam

Today the world's largest operating steam train make an hour long "whistle" stop in my hometown of Mankato, MN.

Hundreds of people showed up and you could walk right up to it. It was a pretty cool site to see. It was hard to get a full shot of the train without having people in the pic.

My dad is a huge train buff and he has a hard time getting around (polio) and so I took him down to see it. It was really fun to spend of quality time with him.

Very cool! I kept looking for my brother in your pictures - he's a train buff too. Actually, I have no idea if he went, but it wouldn't have shocked me to see him.

Love that locomotive. I think the Columbine car is called a vista dome, or something to that effect. What a great thing to have that train stop in your town. I'm sure your dad was thrilled!

If only we could get that locomotive to come to NC! We did have a visiting steam locomotive, Flagg Coal #75. It's a *little* smaller but it does burn coal!
