Unhealthy Learning State

I’m in an unhealthy state. I am “collecting” diplomas. Not high ones. Things that interest me. But they cost. £29 a time. Not much, but they add up. I need to write a hypnotic script releasing me from my chronic learning! It’s not a pleasurable activity - learning is hard and exams are thick and fast. I guess I’m a junkie awaiting for each and every result! Just got back results from my diplomas in Gestalt Theory, Mindfulness and Counselling. They don't licence me to practice, but learning is good on any level right? Maybe not en masse like this… AND I'm doing it whilst studying for a major award in Hypnotherapy , something that MATTERS to me. Why detract from my learning there just because I fancy spreading my wings a bit? One person recommended that I bury myself into writing high quality hypnotic scripts in my spare time… I like that idea.

If you can truly afford it and the additional classes don’t cause you to miss doing work for your hypnotherapy award, then it’s not really any different than having any other hobby. If you are having trouble getting your hypnotherapy work done on time or if you are struggling to pay for necessities because you spend so much on classes, then it may be time to address it. It’s no different than the people on these boards who are really into Disney. So long as they aren’t creating financial hardships or losing focus on their day to day life because of their love of Disney, it’s not a problem.

Having the knowledge that it could become a problem, and admitting it, is a good way to help keep it under control. Writing those scripts would certainly be a good use of your time in the area of expertise you enjoy most.

I guess I would say…to what end? Are you interested in opening practice? If so, work towards that. Or are you interested in additional education because you enjoy it AND can afford it? I’d so, continue on that course.
If I may be so bold, you’ve posted a lot about what courses you take/ want to take and what certificate you’ve been awarded. You’ve posted a lot about websites and website names, but what is your end goal? Why not put your education & certificates to work and see where that leads you? At a certain point you have to get of the pot, or well/ you know.

If you can afford to pursue your interests and it doesn't affect your job that brings in income I'd agree with others that it's just a great hobby. If it's preventing you from having a profession and making money to support yourself then some focus and immediate goals are probably in order.

That's the thing! I crow about a certificate here or a diploma there, but TBH, it's leaving me drained. It's not a healthy relationship with learning.

Perhaps redirect your energy towards using the education you already have. Have you started practicing? Maybe you will find some satisfaction in digging into your current education to help people.

I whole-heartedly agree! I am currently studying for a lengthy, elaborate qualification - unlike the other accolades, this one matters and is NOT just a taster bit of studying. I am stopping studying other courses in lieu of this one.

Do you have free learning classes where you are? I like to audit because there is no pressure, if it is for my own edification who cares.

There are a few and I've used one… they certainly have their place! Sadly the selection and the prestige don't live up in combination to the paid courses :( And it's yet more learning! But good call!
