Ungrateful vent

I just need to vent a little steam and I know this is going to sound ungrateful, but here goes anyways:

My family of 5 is going to WDW and my parents are coming along as well. I've been planning, organizing, making all reservations, etc. as they have told me all along that "whatever you want to do is fine with us; we are just happy to be spending time with you..." yadda, yadda, yadda. I've even made a comment once or twice basically saying if you don't want anything to do with planning the itinerary, you can't complain about it later (said jokingly, but you know....really kind of meaning it...)

Well, the basic itinerary is all set, ADRs all made, and because Grad nights are closing MK early for four nights during our stay, I've really had a tough time getting our MK day nailed down. We leave in about 5 weeks.

TODAY I get an email saying they booked a "surprise" for us: A show (Blue Man) in the Universal Studios Resort on......yep, our only MK evening. I know I should be grateful....they really only have good intentions and want to do something generous and wonderful for us, but damxxx it!!!! I know it's petty, but now I have to go back and rearrange everything all over again.

I wish they had called me to say "Hey, we are thinking of doing something special....is there any night that will work better?" We weren't even planning on being anywhere NEAR Universal on this trip.

Urrggggh....like I said, I know it's petty and ungrateful, but I'm aggravated just the same. :headache:

Thanks for letting me let off some steam......

Unless you are Disney obsessed like most of us on here people just don't understand the time and effort it takes to make these plans. I understand completely how you feel I am the planner and my parents and friends tag along all the time. They just don't understand that you are working really hard to make their vacation special and just right. I am sorry you have to rearrange everything but at least it will make the next five weeks go by even faster!

Nope... I would feel the same. I am in the same planning boat. My mother and DH keep saying they don't care what, when and where as long as we are at WDW.

the only commitment I can get is from my 4 year old who wants to eat at CRT!

Just waiting for the complaining.

I don't think you are ungrateful. I also read from your thread that you don't believe they meant to "ruin" your plans intentionally.

Is it not possible for them to change the night? I suspect that they don't understand the extent and scale of the whole Disney planning thing. I don't know if Blue Man Group tix are flexible, but could you maybe discuss that with them and explain (as briefly as you can) about the itinerary. It would be a shame to leave for your trip feeling disappointed while they are really excited to be doing something for you. I don't think you are unfair. I just don't think they understand. Maybe you could help them.

Lol. I feel for you, but I know the amount of planning and obsession that goes into setting a Disney itenerary. Shew and to make it something off property? I wont even go there with the it's at the other place.

I'd have a hard time to refrain from asking if the tickets were refundable. but......take a deep breath and jump back in and get your plan re worked. Good luck.

Make sure they each have a copy (except your 4 year old of course) of your itinerary. Put ALL of your names on it. That way they have it in black and white and you have a greater chance of them going along with it. Epxlain to them (only if anyone complains) that this is why you really wanted the to be a part of the planning and that you have put months of agonizing and thought into making sure that you accommodated everyone's interests. I hope it all goes just as you planned. That goes for the OP too!;)

You're not being ungrateful. I would flip out if my Mom or ILs bought tickets and expected me to leave WDW property for Blue Man Group in the middle of a Disney trip. I can't believe they spent that kind of money on tickets without okaying it without you. It was a nice thought, but YIKES. How old are your kids? Are they even interested in the Blue Man Group? Did you already have ADRs for that night too? Are you even bringing/renting a car to drive over there?

Vent away. DMIL is going with us on this trip and so far has just went along with the flow. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Not ungrateful at all. You seem to recognize that they had good intentions yet those good intentions nonetheless will cause you some hassles. I think that makes you an awesome person.

Wow, I feel your pain. Knowing how much effort is put into the planning, itineraries, ADR's etc, I would be feeling the same as you are. Hopefully you can work around it! I was considering a Universal/WDW trip, going to Uni at the beginning, but dang it, I just want to spend ALL of my vacation time at WDW.

When I am there, I prefer to not even leave the property if I can help it.

I know....I went onto the Universal site to check the price and YIKES is right! I have older teens, so I'm sure they will have a great time, and yes, we will have a rental car this time (but don't usually). Of COURSE I had ADRs that evening as well, but luckily nothing I had to sell a limb to get.

Thanks for all the support everyone. :goodvibes

I totally understand but you know they meant good, so vent here and then go and make changes to your plan. :)

I'm pretty confrontational when it comes to my time and money at Disney. While I would be grateful for the THOUGHT behind the BMG tickets, I wouldn't hesitate to let them know that it's something I'm not interested in, particularly on that day. Maybe suggest an alternate day to go. Five weeks out, you might be able to switch the tickets to another night. I don't think you're being ungrateful, but since you mentioned that you are doing all the planning, etc and have asked them all along if they have wants/ideas/needs, I don't think you'd be in the wrong to stand up to this.

I agree with the majority - VENT, VENT, VENT, then close your mouth, adjust your plans, and just let it go.....

They wanted to show you how much they appreciate all your hard work in planning this wonderful trip for them, they wanted to do it in a big way and thought of something they think you would enjoy but that YOU would not have thought to do. So take another deep breathe and let it go.....

Remember this was done with LOVE so put a smile on your face, apppreciate the fact that they recognize your efforts and just ENJOY your night at Universal. :woohoo: just let it go.....

recite this mantra: it was done with love, it was done with love, it was done with love, it was done with love............

I agree! You are understandably frustrated. I hope that you can get all of your plans to work out!

I wouldn't go see the blue man group even if they were playing on my front lawn tonight, let alone in the middle of a disney trip....big hug your way.

vent away.

Very sorry to hear of your frustrations. Sending big hugs your way and I hope you get your new itinerary sorted out!:hug:
