Just a quick question but has anyone else had a dis user be generally unfriendly to them?

Today on another board i was typing in shorthand and another dis user told me she hoped it was a joke because me typing like that made her feel sick and other stuff like that.I almost cried it just felt so horrible to be talked to like that :guilty: :guilty: :sad2: :sad1: :sad1: :(

anyone else had a similar experience?

Not to me personally but when i read threads i see a particular diser that always seems to write back snotty comments or is correcting people it might be dry humor..but i think its uncalled for. :sad2:

i don't take any of the comments seriously...just let it roll of your back! i'm here to have fun and share a passion with everyone :) don't worry about it!!

Sadly enough there are many unfriendly people around here. Some of them pop out of nowhere and take what was meant to be a simple thread or simple statement and turn it into a fiasco...when it was never meant to be that way. There are LOTS AND LOTS of people that belong to DISboards. For the most part, everyone is pretty nice, or at least somewhat neutral. But, on any given day it is extremely easy to find rude posters who seem to love judging others and/or making someone's life miserable.

I'm not sure what you mean by typing in "shorthand"...You mean the true shorthand my mom was taught in school, or just computer world abbreviations?? Most people on any board would rather read the full word than a bunch of abbreviations, but this should have put to you in a nice manner.

At any rate, you just need to ignore these people. No one on these boards is worth ruining your whole day over. None of them know you personally, they're just words on a computer. Sign on and enjoy yourself with all things Disney or even other stuff. Ignore the rudeness of other guests and have a good time :goodvibes

Some people take this a little too seriously. I once got yelled at for using "..." too much. It has made me very self conscious about my typing. When I type fast sometimes I don't capitalize my I's but when I am here I make sure that I go back and correct my grammar. I just don't want to get yelled at by the grammar nazis!!

Sorry, that was me. Somehow I got signed out... :confused3

I am sorry that your feelings were hurt by the other poster :(.

I read the thread in question and I agree that the other DISer was pretty mean. However ... s/he did have a good point buried in the meanness. Your way of writing may go over well over on the Teen Board, but the adults don't want to have to puzzle out exactly what "now thats a gr8 attitude so many people in my skwl go how gay 2 things they dnt lyk i'm glad sum1 has the rite idea" means. I quoted that verbatim, with no capitalization and no punctuation. Please don't even get me started on the word "skwl"! This isn't a chat room and we're not IMing to each other. This is a message board where the grown-ups try to write in complete sentences. You might want to make more of an attempt to do so when you are posting on the adult forums. I guarantee that you will be taken more seriously.

Thankyou i do try and type properly but sometimes it just happens sorry

Thankyou

You can put posters who are unfriendly on your Ignore list. That way you don't have to read their posts or replies. :)

Abbreviate all you want. If people don't like it they don't have to read it. If someone is always nasty to you put them on your ignore list and move on. :)

I agree that some DISers can be rather mean. I noticed earlier today a post, by what I believe may be a child, and someone ripped it apart because the spelling and punctuation was bad. I think people need to remember there are people on here of all ages and from many countries (english may not be their first language), it isn't necessary to criticize people for their grammar or writing style. If you don't like it or can't understand it, don't read it. IMO. It isn't necessary to put people down just because they may not have the best writing skills, particularly if they are a child, the poster is just trying to add to the discussion.

Don't let it get to you.Just enjoy yourself and have fun.
Most people on these boards are really nice and friendly, and even some of the ones who don't seem to be are...they just don't put their point across in the right way.As for the genuine rude people just ignore them. :thumbsup2

ITA. I DO think you'll get a lot less people interested in what you're saying if you abbreviate alot though. I just happened to accidentally come across the post the OP is speaking of while browsing another forum. To be honest, the post was difficult to read. Just not something my eyes are used to looking at.
I'm not bashing the OP by any means, just stating my opinion. With that said, the person the OP was talking about was unecessarily rude in her criticism. I guess I just can't understand why people have to start out being this way. It would have been much nicer just to ask her to please not abbreviate so much as it was hard to understand. :rolleyes2

I agree with mickeymousemom, some people just apparantly feel the need to rain on another's parade. Write however you want.
Having said that, I have to admit that I'm kind of an old fogey, and alot of the abbreviations are hard for me to wrap my brain around. But that's MY problem...you just go on and have fun posting, that's what the boards are here for, right? :disrocks:

Obviously someone who is not happy in their own life.

I'd definitely find this post very distracting. I wouldn't make a comment about it unless I was in a really bad mood for some reason, but I certainly wouldn't actually take the time to read/decipher any comments written by that member.

::yes:: Try not to let it bother you. Most people here are nicer than that. I too, have trouble reading those kind of abbreviations, and if I'm having too much trouble, I might give up on reading the post. (But that's not the only writing style I sometimes give up on!)

Not saying it to flame you, just to say you might not get as many responses when you type that way. But that doesn't give anyone the right to be rude to you about it, they ought to just ignore your posts.

Pretty much everyone is really nice. Maybe her reply was meant to be joking? I dont know exactly what you mean by shorthand. It took me a while to leqarn what DH,LOL,MK etc meant but you will catch on.If you have invented your own personal shorthand it could be trickier just because people will have a hard time understanding your posts.Anyway, welcome to Dis! Eat :hippie: ,chat and be merry :Pinkbounc

I'm sorry to say that after reading the boards for awhile, there will never be world peace. I'm sure someone may have taken what I wrote wrong...I'm not claiming to be perfect, but I just try to ignore it. Non verbal communication can be misunderstood and it's easier to confront people not in person or that you don't know.
