Hi all!!!
It's been a while since I have graced this wonderful board with my presence in the format of a new post. Since my last post much has happened at DCA. The new update to the entry way, Carthay Circle and Cars Land!! First and most importantly, I LOVE THE CHANGES!!! The park is beautiful and I plan on spending more time in DCA!!!
Now that has been taken care of, let's move on to the matter at hand.
Upon one of my first visits to DLR some 4 years ago I purchased a wonderful coffee mug. This one to be precise.

This has been my favorite mug since! About a year or so ago they stopped selling this mug right about the time I wanted to buy a second!! Since then My wife and I have looked all over trying to track one down but to no avail.
We finally went down to check out all the new additions to DCA and fell in love! We strolled around checking out all the new merchandise and to our great pleasure DCA was selling a really nice, thick, quality mug that I consider to be a "Daily Drinker". Let me elaborate. I like mugs that are sturdy, thick, feel good in your hand and have minimal kitsch. I am not a fan of having a character in some state of grogginess, looking desheveled with a coffee mug in their hand and a little caption. I do think those are fun, but they do not fit my personality. So I was very excited to find something I really liked. The following is side by side pictures of my "old" mug and the new one just purchased. You can see that the new mug is EVEN THICKER!!! It also has the classic diner flair and more of a "c" handle as opposed to the "D" that the old one has. It's graphics look might keen also!! I thought it was great that they included the stops for the Red Trolley inside the lip to tie in the whole theme!

I used the new mug for the first time yesterday morning. It is a fabulous mug!!! It's thick sides and slight curve felt very natural to drink from and as some other mugs tend to get the shape wrong when this thick DCA's is just right! Not a drop spilt!!! This morning I got up and reached into the dishwasher to grab my new mug for day 2 of what was becoming a deep and meaningful relationship when to my horror this is what I saw.
(Those who have heart issues might want to look away)

Do you see what I see? That's right! After one time through the dishwasher Mickey's hands and feet fell off and they took most of the black lettering too!
One or two more washes and I won't be able to remember where the Trolley stops!! Heck, after ten to twelve washes I won't even remember this was from DCA and that they have a trolley!!!!
I can't believe Disney would charge $14.95 for a mug where all the lettering comes right off. I thought for sure this would be another home run mug after having my other old favorite that has been washed hundreds of times and it shows hardly any wear at all! It seems to me these mugs didn't get glazed after the designs were put on. Very Disappointing!!!
I think what gets to me the most is the fact that Disney has the motto of everything has to be perfect/correct. (The idea that if a brick layer came to DLR with their they would see the brick work and think, "Man, they did everything right! Looks Great!" As opposed to being distracted by poor crafstmanship.) This ideal holds true for everything in the Disney Parks. It's a real struggle to find something that Disney has done wrong with the implementation of audio, lighting, construction, etc. That being said, it's sad to think that what they sell the park goer as a souvenir that they will see every morning after their trip and potentially show their co-worker's saying "Man, you have got to go! It's so much fun! They do everything right!" Only to have the words and design fade from their prized possession within a few mere days of use is utterly inexcusable. Especially after spending all this money on expansion and raising ticket prices (namely the now crazy high PAP price)
So let me know what you guys think!
I would still recommend this mug as it is a real pleasure to drink from, just know that one day it will be just a mug.
