Unforeseen circumstances Cali adventure closing early tonight

In Oregon, 53 is called "mild" and calls for a light jacket :rotfl:

Here in SoCal, anything lower than 60 we get out the flannel sheets, flannel PJs, and down jackets. :rotfl2:

....and apparently bail on theme parks. ;)

If it were 53 degrees here in Montana we would be out in the streets (no coats)having a parade and we would all start believing in global warming.

haha, this reminds me of when my mom first moved to Cali from Nebraska or South Dakota or some place and they were used to snow on Christmas. Well here in Cali it was sunny and like in the 60s. they were out in shorts riding their new bikes wondering why no one else was out doing the same! :rotfl2:

Since a big part of DL and CA is visited by locals, we locals can't take anything much below 50 degrees. We are pretty wimpy. Also all our blood is thin.

exactly!:thumbsup2

..its a little more then flannel footy pajamas when it hits 53!! It’s more like down parkas, fleece lined hoodies and those really really thick socks for inside of our uggs! :rotfl2:

I;m sure if it was 53 amamax2 you would not want to ride screaming knowing that your already ice cold fingers would be frozen solid to the handle bars of your seat.:lmao::rotfl::scared1:

soooo have we figured out why the closed early?

My guess from reports I was reading around the net is that inclement weather was probably the main reason. I remember reading some reports last year about Disneyland closing earlier than posted times once or twice during winter due to inclement weather. Whether this "inclement weather" had caused lower than expected crowds or was a prediction of things to come that would impair park operations is likely never to be known except by those who made the decision. My speculation is that cold weather led to low attendance which made it more justifiable to close early. Predicted future cold weather lead to predictions of even less attendance which also helped justify the decision. Perhaps also Disney was worried about late night bad weather that might interfere with their middle of the night stealth removal of the California letters and just figured it would be better to clear the guests out sooner rather than later. Who knows? I expect we'll all keep speculating for the fun of it.

I would gladly change thin blood for a chance to live close to Disneyland ANYDAY!
I am stuck north of the 55th parallel:sad2:

Oh maybe ur right longtimedisneylurker—worried that it be way to cold for park guests as the sun set.. that makes sense!

I would be pretty ticked off if Disney pulled that during our trip. WDW stayed open when it was in the teens.

We LOVE rainy days at Disney! I can't imagine closing because of rain or below normal temps.

I would have marched right to Guest Relations.

Yeah, I wouldn't be thrilled about it either if I was planning on that time in the parks. I'm sure there are all kinds of disclaimers and fine print saying that operating hours are subject to change, blah, blah, blah though, so I wouldn't really let it ruin my vacation but would just try to roll with it. I doubt this kind of thing happens very often; this is only the second time I have ever heard of it.

Out of interest of understanding the thoughts of others who seeing things differently than me...

Keeping in mind that we have no idea why The Parks closed one hour early last night (only lots of speculation), what would you say to Guest Relations?

They gave almost 8 hours notice. They closed 1 hour early. Everything printed everywhere says they have the right to adjust hours. Sometimes, things happen that require businesses to adjust.

Would one hour make you THAT angry? What would you expect from Disney Guest Relations to compensate you for the change?

Thanks for sharing,
Dreams

I would venture a guess that there is no point in that trip.

In true Disney style, it appears it is happening seemingly overnight. Details here.

Yeah, I did know what was going on, hubby had the inside scoop on it. :guilty: I do like seeing the changes as they happen, though, so that's why I wanted to go this afternoon. My teen is having a hard time with it, she claims they're ruining her childhood memories... :rolleyes1 I'm trying to keep a positive outlook on it

Ah, gotcha. Cool. I have read elsewhere about people who thought they could go today and get their "last photos," so I didn't want you to trek down there if that was the case. :goodvibes

I like seeing things as they change too. If posts on Twitter are accurate, all that can be seen now is the tops of letters with walls all around.

Awww. That's cute and sad at the same time. My "childhood brain" still sees the Disneyland sign on Harbor Blvd each time we drive by what used to be the Main Entrance. I swear I have walked out the main gates of Disneyland and seen a parking lot in front of me on nights when my eyes are tired. :goodvibes

Hopefully she will see it as *new* memories being made,

I guess if the reason was weather, then it was pretty lame. I totally understand they have the right to change things. Closing early because of lower than average temperatures doesn't seem to be a big enough excuse.

The whole reason we go in the winter, during slower periods, is to take advantage of lower crowds. We understand that "extras" may be unavailable, but some rain and cold shouldn't be a big enough reason.

I've been to WDW during tropical storms and hurricanes. I don't see anything CA has experienced as anything close.

I was inside DCA watching the 9:15 WOC as soon as it ended we were walking towards the exit, at around 9:50 they made the announcement that DCA was now closed. 10 minutes early really didn't make a difference, I just thought it was odd they didn't simply wait a bit.

Only someone from Huntington Beach would say 53 was cold. :rotfl2:

I'm not from HB and I'd say 53 was cold.......:rotfl:

Not to everyone. I grew up in the mtns of Oregon, it got MUCH colder then it does in Portland and I said 53 was cold as a kid! :lmao:

Yes, I am aware that I am a cold weather wuss. :rotfl2:

I don't think it's lame at all. I think it's up to DLR/DCA management to decide what to do. We were there last winter when they closed DCA an hour early, we were bummed sure but we didn't go to Guest Services and complain, instead we went back to DLR and dealt with the cold. I have ways of coping, I lived in the mts and snow, I can deal, I don't want to deal but I can. LOL Give me gloves, warm socks, a warm coat, scarf and hat, some hand warmers and life is good. That was our plan at DCA, it simply became our plan at DLR.

I'm glad it wasn't due to an injury or anything like that, stories of early or unexpected closures always bring injuries to mind.
