Unexpected Dinner Guests.. TONIGHT! HELP!

My chicken stand by:

1 cup honey
1/2 cup dijon mustard
2 tbsp curry powder

Mix sauce. Put chicken in dish so they fit snuggly...pour sauce over top and cook at 350*F for 40 - 60 min depending on how thick the breast are. I usually serve it with wild rice mixture and whatever veg I have on hand.

Ohhh... That sounds really good! How curry-eee (that really isn't a word. LOL ) is this? I am on a total curry kick right now.

OP again!

Well dinner last night was great!! I was so proud of myself for cooking a "real" meal too. Thank you all! I really appreciate it.

The in-laws are behaving and we're eating out tonight.

Thanks again!

I'm glad it worked out. Can I make a suggestion? One of the best bits of advice I've ever seen for newlyweds, new parents, etc. is: Begin as you mean to go on. If you expect/hope that they will be more respectful of your schedule in the future, insist on it NOW. If you're a pushover now, you're going to be a pushover for the rest of your life with them. But if you refuse to roll over now, they will be less likely to expect it in the future.

I'm not saying be rude, I'm just saying don't bend over backwards to accommodate them when they're being unreasonable (and yes, showing up unannounced and expecting a ride from their airport and a homecooked meal is unreasonable). MIL "expects" a homecooked meal on a surprise visit? "Oh, that's too bad. We were planning on having pizza tonight. I don't have a thing in the house to cook. I know you don't like pizza, so maybe we can get Chinese. And I'll cook tomorrow - what sounds good?"

Fancy Chicken pot pie

buy bottled gravy(2 large)
bag of peas and carrots 1
puff pastry shells 2 boxes (each box has 6 shells) or sheets 1 box

bake and dice chicken (or i buy a precooked chicken)
cook peas and carrots
bake shells or sheets
sheets would be defrosted 40 minutes and cut into thirds and then into squares and bake 15 minutes at 400

heat bought gravy with peas and carrots and doctor with some poultry seasoning and chicken drippings

put into shells or put in bowls and top with baked puff pasty sheets

Stouffer's frozen Lasagna and a nice fresh loaf of italian bread with a side salad.

Pick up a pie to stick in the oven and some vanilla ice cream. Wal-lah. Dessert.

Oh, and some booze, just for you.:lovestruc

Maybe my kids are spoiled, but I bought stouffer's lasagna (coupon and on sale), and they hated it! However, I don't think they've even had jarred sauce before, never mind frozen lasagna.

Just do what my husband did.

Ordered Italian, put it in nice dishes and carried it off as his own. I should have been annoyed but hey he can't cook. I was just happy he remembered how I like my ravioli.

Thank you. I appreciate your advice and will definitely keep that in mind for the duration of their stay, plus for the rest of our lives..

I guess MIL just scares the poop out of me and I'm constantly trying to impress her. I do need to get a backbone when it comes to her though! But, a nice backbone. :thumbsup2
Hey Rora! How did the dinner with the inlaws go?
Hey girlie!! It went well!! I'm happy we're going out to eat tonight though! :rotfl:

Hope things are well with you!!:hug:

Personally I would've run by the store and bought some rotissarie chickens and made the regular sides & a salad with them. Also bought a nice italian bread.
