Anyone try to appeal a claim? We live in MASS my husband got denied. The story he was in a sales job commission plus a small salary. The sm salary paid for his insurance & commuter rail ticket so in reality it cost $ to go to work. He talked to his boss a few times they upped his salary gave him a few good leads then it went back to getting bad leads. it was crazy they only gave leads to certain people.
So unemployment denied him but said he could appeal. Thanks in advance. Any tips??

I just passed my boards & got a nursing job so I had to work days for a month for training so we made the decision for him to quit because it would have cost too much to pay for daycare.

If I am understanding corrected, your DH quit? If so, here in SC he wouldnt be able to collect UI. Good luck!

I'd try an appeal, but I believe that in ordinary situations if you quit you forfeit the unemployment benefit.

What was the reason given for denial?

If you quit, you aren't eligible for unemployment in any state that I know of.

With few exceptions, if you quit your job you are not eligible for unemployment.

Sorry, but I don't think you can get unemployment if you quit.

We live in Mass too, but if you quit you are not eligible. You can appeal and if your husbands employer doesn't protest it, you might be covered, but they will probably protest because if they don't they will see a rise in their unemployment taxes.

In most states, the employer bears a responsibility to approve the payment of unemployment...and they generally will do so and accept that responsibility when THEY are the reason the employee has lost their job (i.e. they were fired or laid off by the employer). Unemployment assists those who had no control over the loss of their job

When an employee VOLUNTARILY leaves a job (and that's what quitting is) then he gives up the right to collect unemployment. Quitting is a choice that the employee controls, and therefore that choice comes with a cost: no benefits.
