Love my Kodak playsport. It is tough too. Took my to Blizzard Beach and used the wrist strap and rode all the rides with it on....sometime taking video while holding on with the other. Love the size too similar to a cell phone. The pics are only 5mp but it is great with water shots and the video is HD..totally worth the $100. Super easy to use as well.

Check out Ikelite underwater housings. I've used a couple different ones for "big" cameras while scuba diving with great success. They are not cheap, but they also make more affordable housings for smaller point-and-shoot cameras too. They run around $200 or so. They are made for a pretty extensive list of cameras and allow you to operate the camera controls. I've never had any experience with the waterproof point-and-shoots out these days, but reviews I've read are mixed. I like the idea of being able to take a camera I am already comfortable with (and have already paid for) to do my underwater shooting.

It seems to me that the Olympus cameras must vary a lot from model to model. I've had a Stylus720SW for years and it's served me very well. The pictures aren't as good as my DSLR, but then there's a heck of a lot of places that I just won't take that and the Olympus has done a fine job.

If anyone finds that the underwater cases for their non-waterproof camera are a bit pricey, you might want to check out aquapac.net - I used to use one of their cases for a camera before I had the Olympus, and although I was initially nervous (because it wasn't a cheap camera), the case was great. I still use an Aquapac to hold my keys/cards/cash when I'm at water parks or snorkelling. I'm thinking about getting a new one that will hold my phone.

All of the Olympus hating is very interesting. We love our Stylus Tough 8000. Best purchase I've made in quite some time. The image quality is fanatastic, and I loved the looks on people's faces in Stormalong Bay last month when my husband tossed it to me in the pool. And I love the fact that I can drop it and it won't break, unlike the 2 Sony Cybershots that I had recently that fell all of 2 feet and died on the spot.

Don't get me wrong- I LOVED it- but just wished mine wouldn't have died after 2 years- we used it all of the time at the pool, beach, etc. It still works out of the pool and takes great pictures- which is fine for a pocket camera, but we really only got it for a water camera. I have a big Canon Rebel for my real pictures. LOL

Also don't forget anyone taking the camera to the beach or somewhere with deep water- get the floating strap- works great and you don't have to worry about it sinking to the bottom- never to be found again. We took our Olympus(when it worked in the water)jet skiing for 3 hours in the ocean and didn't have to worry about it.

We still love our Olympus. We take it everywhere! We have spent a ton of time with it in the water and never had any problems. We have gone to many water parks, in both wave pools and swimming pools, and beaches (including Cocoa beach when the waves were pounding and we all came out with ten tonnes of sand in our suits. Maybe we're just lucky but in any case I still love mine.

DH and I have 2 of the Olympus 8000 tough with underwater housings and use them for scuba diving. We love ours. If you are taking land pics, you have to remember to take the settings off of underwater macro, then the land pics are great.

Oh, maybe that is why we haven't had any problems with our Olympus; we haven't used it at the beach, unless you count Stormalong Bay at BC. We do have an inground pool at our house and have used it nearly every day this summer and it has held up great. I posted some underwater pics on my facebook page, and a friend of mine (who is a Photopass photographer at WDW) commented on how great they were. I am actually going to upgrade to the Stylus Tough 8010, because of the high def video feature. It is really a very versatile little camera.

another thumbs up for the Olympus stylus. We take it skiing, beach, snorkeling, underwater at the pool. It rocks The clarity is incredible. we still get funny looks when I walk into the water at the beach. We first bought it when we went up to ski and my camera died after sitting next to my cold water bottle in my purse.. That is when we starting researching and found the Olympus.. Now for our other photos like the kids sports.. we went with the canon EOS digital SLR- that takes some incredible pictures.

I got the fuji (newest model). So far it has been great video and shots underwater and outside. It was a bright sunny day though. I have yet to test it at the beach or a waterpark! I can't wait though.

Another vote for Olympus. I've been using the Stylus 1030SW for a couple years now. It's done great. We've used it at the beach many many times with no problems. It's gone on snorkeling trips and dolphin rides.

My only complaint on this model is that it only has the 3x zoom.

Sadly, we've had a couple accidents with it this summer. It was dropped onto cement, (from much higher than the 6 feet shockproof level). The camera still works however, the faceplate & shutter window came loose so I don't trust that it's still waterproof. I will be looking to buy a newer Olympus model early next year.

We purchased a plastic sleeve to put a cheap digital camera in on ebay for around $15. I have also used ziplock bags and an old digital camera to take pix of the kids underwater in our pool at home. It actually worked much better than I expected! LOL

We got the Fuji XP10 and loved it at first. My husband opened it on Father's Day. By July 15th the flash stopped working. At the end of July, right before our Disney trip, water got in the lens. I left it for 2 days in a bag of rise to draw the moisture out so we could use it on our trip. 6 days into our trip we got a "zoom error" message and the camera was not functional. Mailed it off and of course all those problems are not covered by warranty and they want $100 to fix it.

Off to buy a new camera. I am not paying them to fix their piece of crap
