CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF ON THE MAGIC THEY SELL UNDERWATER CAMERAS. A FRIEND ON ANOTHER CRUISE LINE SAID THEY SOLD THE UNDERWATER CAMERAS ON BOARD AND DEVELOPED THEM TOO. UNFORTUNETLY SHE DID NOT HAVE HERS DEVELOPED AND THE X RAY MACHINE AT AIRPORT ZAPPED HER FILM AND NOW SHE IS WISHING SHE HAD THEM DEVELOPED ON BOARD.

I don't recall, but can guarantee they are cheaper on land.

As a technician that services the screening equipment at the airports, the only xray machines that will ruin film are the Invision and the L3 examiner. These are the big ones used for checked luggage.
The normal ones at the checkpoints are safe for all film less that 1000 speed. If you are worried about this ALWAYS carry your film/cameras with you and tell the TSA officials at the checkpoint and they will act accordingly to your needs.
Hope this helps.

To both of the original poster's questions, yes, they do sell underwater cameras onboard, and yes, they will develop film onboard up to the last sail day. The film process is Kodak Royal Gold. We usually develop our film onboard for no other reason than we want to see the pictures before we go home. The prices are comparable to the local drugstore chain per print.

We bought Fuji waterproof cameras @ Walmart in Orlando for about $8 a piece. We developed them at home but they do develop on the ship. I just wanted to say that the quality and colour were amazing! We took them to stingray city and the pictures are really clear and the blue water looks great in them!

I have a Canon Elph Sport (Waterproof to 16') and I love it. It takes awesome photos and while it is not disposable it does take better photos! I paid $80 for mine on ebay

I bought a reusable waterproof camera at Target for $25 that also takes great pictures!

We always take 3 or 4 of the Fuji disposable underwater camera with us when we go. We have found them to produce better blues and greens while Kodak leans towards more reds. We always bring ours home to have the film processed and have never had a problem with X-Rays.
Just an opinion.

we always take 2 fuji and 2 kodak underwater cameras. it seems like the kodak comes back with better colors. and kodak looks better when you get the pictures put on a CD. the price on the ship i think was $15 or higher. so get it at walmart or some other camera place

They sell them..but, you are much better picking one up at walmart before you leave. Huge price difference.

The drug-store variants of cheap disposable underwater cameras people here are going on and on about are fine, for laypeople who are satisfied with the soft focus and washed-out colors that come from plastic lenses and small, weak flashes.

For those who appreciate real quality however (or plan to take pictures more than 5 feet underwater), consider moving up to real underwater photo equipment. Understand that reds begin to weaken with every extra foot down one goes (a problem which require STRONG external flashes to fix), and that high-quality lenses are required if you want sharp pictures underwater.

Years ago, that required an expensive professional SLR, but quality "consumer level" underwater point and shoots are a growing and increasingly afforable category. For those interested in taking decent pictures with such equipment while snorkeling or diving, here's a good place to start:

I just returned from Target with an underwater camera for our November cruise which cost a whopping $7.99.

I'm not sure how good it is yet since southern Illinois just hit the 70s today. I found it in the seasonal area of toys with the baby floats and sand toys. It's designed for kids, has a 9 meter distance on it and no flash similar to disposable kind. It uses standard 35mm film so you can use your preferred brand and the waterproof case can be removed if you like.

I am planning to let ds give it try in the pool as soon as it's warm enough if we can't make to an indoor pool sooner. I will post again with the results.

Im using the underwater housing for my canon s50 digital.

used it last year with good results (and got it cheap by scouring the internet- not paying full retail)
