Understanding Weather

Here now. We've thankfully missed most of the rain, but it's rained every day, and for longer than it usually does. (We've been here the first week of June the last three years.)

We prefer good rain jackets (North Face/Under Armour etc) to ponchos. As prior posters have said, it's still often uncomfortably warm even with the rain, and our rain coats breathe. We use string backpacks to carry that, and a pair of flip flops each, in the park along with any other miscellaneous stuff (sunglasses, wallet, etc).

The before/after the rain weather varies tremendously. Sunday, it cooled off briefly after the rain (high 70's) but then stayed cool with what must have been 99% humidity. Walking from Norway to the parking lot after Illuminations, at a rather leisurely pace, we were all DRENCHED with sweat. Tuesday night it rained for several hours, and then was 'close to cold' afterwards - mid 60's, even though in the high 80's during the day.

I pack a microfiber rag in my backpack - helps to wipe off wet feet and/or wet seats.

We have taken several WDW trips in recent years (10 maybe, in the signature). Of them all, I think we DID NOT need a poncho for two trips. In summertime especially, Florida is prone to afternoon thunderstorms. It's a pain when it comes to waiting in line for rides that get shut down with lightening, but usually the park empties out somewhat after the rain. As long as you find a place to stay dry (mainly keep those shoes dry!) you will have fun again once the rain stops.

It's Florida. It's Summer. It's going to rain.

As others have stated, it rains here pretty much every day at some point, Typically between 2:00 - 6:00. I just came from the Disney area heading to downtown Orlando and drove through rain twice back into sunshine twice. It's a 15-20 minute drive on the expressway. Now it rained yesterday pretty steady from about 3:30 pm through the evening time, which is pretty rare in summer time. The storms usually just roll through and then it just gets muggy as all get out.

I've been at EPCOT and it's pouring rain to walk to the Studios and the sun was out with no rain. It happens. The weather changes quickly here. I've been in the bus area and it was soaked from rain. Got into the park, not a drop looked like it had fallen.

I saw this picture the other day and got a good laugh out of it as it it's pretty spot on.

Chances are it could rain when you're there but you have the right plan with quick drying clothes and ponchos. I might also suggest a spare pair of shoes to put on if you do get caught because walking around in wet shoes sucks!!

If you can, try to find some cover so you don't get too wet (under Splash is quite good) and afterwards avoid indoor rides because damp clothes plus aircon = freezing! I learnt that lesson last year!

Yes, that's when you feel cold - when you get wet in the rain, then go indoors in air conditioning! That's why even at warm times a year I often carry a light layer (like a sweater) in my bag - I hate freezing in the A/C!

As others have said, brief afternoon storm are the norm in June. Most blow through in about 30 minutes or so. Bring at least one extra pair of shoes in case yours get soaked (and stuff the wet ones with newspaper at night, or give them a brief blast inside with a hair dryer!). I usually bring a cheap "emergency poncho" with me in case a rainshower blows through - easy to tuck in a bag.
