Undermount sink...Reveal or no reveal???

We are having an undermount sink put in and asked for it to be flush mounted with the countertop so there would be no rim of sink showing. However, the Silestone folks tell us it is almost impossible to get it exact. Does anyone have any thoughts on which way is best? I just thought I would constantly be wiping that rim if it was there, plus it seems like it would catch all crumbs and stuff being wiped off the counter into the sink.

Not sure what you are asking? We just had Silestone put in with an undermount sink. There is no rim showing, it isn't lined up directly with the countertop a little bit recessed so there is not way it would catch crumbs. You might could get something in there if you dumped something in the sink that sprayed.

Ours counters and sink are granite, but they were able to mount it flush. It wasn't any big deal for the installers.

ours is completely flush as well. I think you need to talk to new installers.

I know what you're talking about. We just had a granite countertop put in our kitchenette and it has an undermount stainless sink. They cut the granite but the cutout is a bit larger than the dimension of the sink. When the sink was undermounted, you do see a bit of the flat rim of the sink all the way around the edges of the sink. Perhaps we got a bad install?

We haven't used the sink yet, but I thought the same thing as you, that it's going to catch crumbs and such.

In our last house we had an undermount and I loved it. It was completely flush. If they know how to measure it shouldn't be a problem. Someone complaining already is not the right one to use. Good luck.

Unless you ask most installers will give you what you have... some revel. Some people like that they have a larger sink hole.

The flush is harder to do to get perfect which is why Silestone gave the OP the disclaimer.

Silestone told us they could do it but we would have to sign a release because it would not be perfect. We went today and decided to have a small reveal rather than take a chance. I guess I like the look of the reveal OK. Actually lots of people I work with that I asked about this could not tell me how theirs looked until they went home and checked. Obviously not too big a deal. I guess I feel better now.

The installers told me they cut the sink hole at the warehouse with a CAD cutting machine. So I had to pick out the sinks before they did the template.

OP, I really don't think you should sign that release. Talk to someone else. Everyone here is telling you that your installer is incorrect. You will mildew and crumbs , then pesky little ants in the reveal spot.

My sink (Kindred) came with a template and measurements for them to use. No install problems for us.

It's a design choice not an incorrect installation. Google undermount sink with reveal....

You are not going to have ants or mildew - all you have to do is rinse the sink down like most people do when they're done washing.

I fabricate & install granite counter tops. Both ways are correct. If it is not specified we do a revel.

Wow, how cool is that! I bet you've seen some beautiful pieces of granite.

It would up set me if our installers had cut the hole for a reveal. It is one thing to make it flush if someone preffered a reveal, that can always be fixed. But once you cut away the graphite, or which ever material is being used, you can't put it back.
