Yes you can. Your best bet, money wise, is to use the ticket first, and then upgrade it inside the gate. You will get full gate value of the ticket, rather than the discounted price you paid.

Use it first if you can. We tried adding a day to our tickets before we used them and they only showed as what we paid. Instead of being $3 to add a day, it was tons of $. They did override it, but it took forever, and explaining where we got the ticket etc.
