OK, I have a couple of questions. First, if I am not staying at a DVC but am a DVC member, can I but annual pass at discounted pric?

What is the least expensive way to turn a "regular" ticket into an annual pass? Which pass should I buy through UnderCoverTourguide to get best deal?.

I've bought the 6 day through Undercover (with the MouseSavers code) and turned it into a DVC price AP at Guest Services.

I didn't do the math, but it was super easy.

You don't need to be staying at a DVC resort to get the DVC discount. Just show your DVC card when you upgrade your pass. We upgraded our last AP from an Undercover Tourist pass. I picked the pass with the highest discount (Current Gate Price - UT price) that had a new GATE PRICE that was UNDER the price of a DVC AP. Use your UC pass once to activate it and then upgrade it. You will get the current gate price for it when the CM bridges the pass to your AP. If you upgrade it before using it, you will only get the amount you paid for the pass applied to the AP.

I did a list comparing all the official ticket prices with the UT Mousesavers discount prices and figures that the 8 day Hopper with water park option is the one with the biggest saving ($28.45) (This was before last sundays price raise, though, so now the savings could be different.

Just make sure you use the ticket at least once at one of the 4 parks, otherwise the price won't be updated to the official price. And don't use any of the Water Park and more options, otherwise you can only change to a Premium AP.

BTW: Just saw that UT currently still has the old prices, so you can save even more at the moment.

What happens if I buy an under cover ticket that is more than the annual pass. does any one know if I will get money back when I do the upgrade to an annual pass?

Apparently you cannot upgrade tickets that are worth more than the AP you want to buy. That's why you have to be careful what you buy.

I bought the 8 day Hopper / Water Park fun because it is the ticket with the gate price closest but still below the AP price AND it's the biggest discount between the UT price and gate price. (At least before the price change, now I think I could have even bought the 10 day Hopper / Water Park fun and saved some more while still staying below the AP price.

OK, so help me out here...

I want to purchase a DVC annual pass. With the new price increase, that will cost me $446.23.

The cost for a 10 Day Water Park Fun & More + Hopper Ticket from UCT via the MouseSavers newsletter is $370.95.

The gate price of the 10 Day Water Park Fun & More + Hopper Ticket is $427.06.

If I buy the ticket from UCT and use it once at the park then take it to exchange it for a DVC annual pass, Disney will charge me $19.17 to upgrade (price of gate DVC annual pass $446.23 - $427.06 gate price of 10 day water park fun & more + hopper gate price ticket)?

So my savings would be $56.12? (Breakdown: $370.95 UCT ticket price paid + $19.17 difference for upgrade at Disney) = $390.12 total cost out of pocket. Annual pass cost if buying directly through Disney $446.23 - $390.12 what I paid out of pocket for a savings of $56.12.

Does that look right???

Yes, but that might not be the best deal. There may be a lower priced UT pass that saves you more money. I would suggest a spreadsheet to find the best deal. For instance when I did it last the 6-day non-exp park hopper was the best savings for me. With the recent price increases, another pass may be the "best" pass.

so, are you telling me that if the regular ticket is more than the annual pass that I will not get a refund of the difference?

Correct. That is policy.

Some people have gotten "pixie dust" in the form of a refund, but you canNOT expect it because it is absolutely not their policy.

I have read numerous times you won't get money back when you upgrade to an AP. I think I read this on Cheshire Figment's (he's a CM) sticky on Tickets on the Theme Park Strategies board.

Just be careful. Only use the MYW+WP+H for a park admission. If you use it for a water park entrance you will have to upgrade to a PAP.

Oops! Meant to reply to a thread and did this... oh well here's to post padding lol

Ahhh I see what happened! First post on a new page, and I thought I made a new thread.

Wow... I seem to be a bit new to this haha

So just to confirm - you CAN upgrade a no exp pass to a normal AP (with expiration)?

It looks like you can get a 6 day MYW + WPF no exp for $409, saving $63 off gate price

To me, someone without the mousesavers newsletter discount code (just signed up today, apparently too late for this month's newsletter) this looks like the best deal.

Thanks

Yes, you can ... as long as you don't use any of the "Water Parks and More" features and you upgrade within 14-days of the first use. The price that you are quoting is wrong, though. I sent you a Private Message with the correct information.

Oh snap! Now I see the wisdom of the spreadsheet! I was thinking the UT price had to be below the AP price but it's the GATE PRICE that has to be below UT... lol good thing Disney makes things easy for us!

No offense, but your spreadsheet made no sense to me. Isn't the 6 day no expiration a better deal than the 10 day HP+WPM? The 6 day no expire is $353.95 and gate price is $414.29. That is less than the cost of the AP and is a savings of $60.34 per pass.
