We have an outlet near-by. Is it similar to long johns/thermal underwear? Would it be a good alternative to long johns for my 12 yr old when skiing?

Just make sure you check to ensure its the cold weater gear as opposed to the warm weather stuff. The cold weather stuff should work just fine. Also, you could look at their website online - they also make other gear that may be helpful

my grandkids both have sets of this stuff.......much better then long johns.......Plus she is in a soccer league and they played well into the COLD month of November......so these were great under her soccer shirts....
they usually wear it to go skiing

My husband works outside a lot in the winter and he swears by it.

DS has been wearing his for soccer as well. I agree in that you should make sure that it's the cold weather gear, and not the warm weather stuff.

Thanks - I didn't realize there were different types - warm weather & cold weather. It makes sense.

DS wears it and says it is extremely warm, "warmer than a sweatshirt." As others have said, make sure you get Cold Gear.

Where is the outlet?

It's excellent, and really warm. The only problem I've had with it is getting too warm. It's great when you are outside, but if you go in for a while, you're melting.

My husband just bought some for hunting.....while I wasnt very convinced by the price tags he swears that they keep him warm, so if he is happy I am happy :)

My 2 boys wear Under Armor when camping and playing sports. They really like it...it is not as bulky as thermal underwear and it is much warmer. I would love it also if the price didn't kill the pocketbook!

DH loves underarmour, much to our checkbooks dismay, LOL. The cold weather gear is totally worth it, though. It's a lot more durable than the equally expensive silk longjohns and is so warm. He got me a pair of the wintergear longjohns and longsleeve tee at the outlet in MD last spring and I love them!

Yep, they're expensive, but we both feel it's worth it. His job (cop) often requires him to be outside for long periods of time in both hot and cold weather... and the hot/cold gear work the way they say they're supposed to.

He'll probably go back to the outlet when he's in DC next May. It's the way to go if you've got one near you.

Wow an outlet! I would love one of those with 3 boys that play sports!!! Oldest DS, 16, is wearing a shirt right now as I type. He lives in the stuff. As others have said cold gear is the best for cold weather. Last January in the mts. of NH he attended a youth group event that was held outside for much of the time. He reports he wore his cold gear pants and shirt with nothing but a pair of shorts over them and a t-shirt over the shirt with his cleats, what a sight he must have been. It was snowing like mad but he says he was warm as anything with this!

I did a little searching and I think the Under Armour Outlets are located at the Prime Outlets in Hagerstown MD & Williamsburg VA. A bit too far for me.

The one he goes to is the one in Hagerstown I think. He and his brother go to DC every year for police week and they're able to stop on the drive back home.
