Just tried to add my DD 2 1/2 to DDP and was told that I could not.
I thought that I read that as DVC members you don’t need to purchase park tickets to purchase the DP, so you could add it for any child under 3.

Do I have the right information??? :confused3

Has anyone added his or her child under 3???

From the dining plan brochure:
The Disney Dining Plan is unavailable for Guests under the age of
3, but they may share from an adult plate at no charge, or a meal
may be purchased from the menu. The price of the meal will be
added to your bill. Guests ages 3-9 must order from a children’s
menu where available.

They will NOT sell you DDP for a <3 year-old, according to the rules. That's a question that is often asked over on the DDP board.

However, they expect your <3 year-old to eat off the parents plates and it's perfectly okay to do that. It's not bending a rule, it's expressly permitted.

If you do push it and want to add the under 3 year old, they will make you purchase park admission for him/her also. I would not do it. They eat free at buffets anyway, and you can purchase the occasional child meal if needed.

When I added the DDP through DVC Member Services for my 15 month old she said I would not need to purchase a ticket since they would not question his age when entering a park. It is cheaper for me to have him on the plan rather then buy him a daily snack, daily CS and a few TS meals that aren't buffets. I will take my chances..if there is a problem on arrival I just won't use it :)

Personally, i think the children's DP is not worth it. Not much to choose from the kids menu....

you can always say he/she is over 3 when registering, then you can put them on the ddp. Oh, and vice versa, if you want them out of DDP ;)

That's what they did..just changed his age on the reservation to 3 ;)

We just feed our DS off of our meals. You get so much food with the DDP that we've never even been able to finish a meal off as a family.

:banana::banana:I was able to add my DD 2 1/2 to DDP today. I spoke with MS at first I was told that I couldn’t. I explained that it made more sense for us to have her on the plan than not. I would have been purchasing snacks and CS meals as well as some TS meals. I was put on hold for a while and he came back and said that an exception would be made. :worship: He told me that he wasn’t sure if I would need to purchase a park ticket for her. We have AP's so the tickets are separate. I just hope when we check in everything is ok...

Be careful offering ways to get around Disney rules. It's against DIS posting policies and will get OP's thread closed through no fault of her own. If you want to kill your own thread, fine -- but don't kill someone else's.

Fortunately, she handled the situation the right way and got the answer she wanted.

When we first used the DDP back in 2007 our youngest was under 3yo. They added him and never gave us any problems or changed his age. Sounds like things have changed
