This may be a bit of a silly question (and possibly illegal :p) but I'm wondering whether I could buy a bottle of wine here and transport it to the US in my checked luggage to drink it when I'm there. I'd like to have a drink in the room in the evenings but I'll only be 18 when I go so I'm not sure if this is actually legal :confused3

Would they just scan my bag and remove it upon entering the US? I don't want to transport wine over there and then get thrown out of the country for it!

You can only take alcohol into the US if over 21 so I wouldn't risk it if I were you.

Claire ;)

I have heard a story about some one under the age of 21 have a drink in there villa and slipped in the pool and hurt them self quiet badly when they were taken to hospital and treated i think his parents were arested with supplying some one under age with alcohol!

I dont think to be honest its worth it I am only 19 and DF is 23 he can drink and i cant but i dont care I am in the best place ever I dont need drink to make it nay better

The authorities are very strict when it somes to underage drinking. A number of years ago DH and his friends were caught drinking a can of beer when they were 18. They were each given a citation, had to go to court and were fined!

Yeah, fair enough, I assumed so. I'm not a big drinker, I just hate not being able to have wine with a meal :guilty: :p
But like you said tinks, Disney is still the happist place on earth :cloud9:

I absolutely loove pink lemonade! My mum bought me a case of 24 for Christmas - I've worked so hard to savour it that I still have a few left :rotfl:

i have several rows on holidays with mil about this.my eldest is 19/20.over here no problem drinking alcohol.but over there in usa if we let him drink we get the punishment.there have been several case where minors(under21)being given alcohol by parents and they have been locked up.
Always found it strange that somewere that sells you a gun no problem but then gets on the high horse if you want to buy a drink.

I've no experience of trying to take alcohol into the country, but I always get ID'd when I'm drinking - even when my parents are buying it for me (and I'm 23 now).
Like pp have said, they are really strict regarding underage drinking (I agree, it is a tad ironic Paul, given the gun laws).
I wouldn't try it if I were you. It is a pain not being able to have a glass, but there are plenty of weird and wonderful non-alcoholic creations to try.
:) :)

Oh you are sooo lucky I love the stuff mmmmm yummy

The gun law is 25yrs now..buy yea...they are mega strict at the airports..and they can turn you right back around again in a heartbeat. Its just too much of a risk I would say for a glass of wine. You cant even have alcahol in your car now it has to be in your boot even if its not opened. they will ticket you for that too. /the bit that gets me is you can marry at 16, have kids, drive a car...but no booze. But hey..you can drive and talk on your mobile phone or drink soda while driving...there is no law here for that!! They tried to introduce the cell phone/driving ban here last year but the motion didnt go through..also if you dont want to wear a crash helmet on a motorbike you dont have to...no laws there either. Dont get me wrong..I love living here...been here 12 years now but the bit that always gets me is...they have drive through autobanks here...on the keyboards they have braille!!!!!! enough said!

I beg of you, don't attempt to purchase or drink wine, beer or liquor here if you're not 21. Not at all worth the hassle.

i cannot see any problem with a 20 year old enjoying a glass of wine in the villa or hotel room, i think some people are over reacting a little.
In fact it would appear that consumption in private is not against the law in the state of florida, some states it is still illegal and in others it is legal if a person over the age of 21 is present.
But Florida it is Legal in private.

Actually, here is the law in the State of Florida: http://www.flsenate.gov/statutes/in...62/SEC11.HTM&Title=->2002->Ch0562->Section 11

You can't possess alcohol in Florida if you're under 21, period. Again, I urge you not to drink in Florida if you're under under the legal age. Why chance it.

I am not urging people under 21 to drink in the US but the statute you refer to is for people drinking on licensed premises. I see no reason why responsible adults over the age of 18 should not have a glass of wine or beer in private.

The law in the State of Florida is that minors can't possess or consume alcohol. Period. This is also a regulation on Disney property. Whether or not you 'see no reason' is beside the point. It's the law.

Now of course if someone want to chance it, that's a personal choice. Do I personally think it's a big deal? Not really. But it is the law.

The law is the law simple as that, if you break it you pay the penalty. I personally will not be allowing my 18 and 20 year old sons to consume alcohol over there especially as I would be held responsible. Weigh it up, is one drink worth getting a criminal record? No.

I am 100% with you they should be allowed to but state laws prohibit it.
Some states do allow a drink under supervision in own homes but Florida is not one of them.
The NYRA have a page with laws for each state http://www.youthrights.org/dastatelist.php

You are correct, my research let me down, i was looking at a document from 10/01/2007 which showed florida had an exception for alcohol if under supervision, as of 2008 this was no longer allowed, i apologise for giving a false interpretation.
So here it is.....Drinking under 21 is not allowed either in public or private and should not be allowed.
