Hi all

One dd LoVes uncrustables but the other dosen't like jelly and won't eat them. Last trip I noticed a trend from regular sandwiches toward the packaged uncrustables. Anyone recently gotten a "regular" pb or pb&j sandwich at a counter service in the parks?

I imagine that the sit down places will be more likely to have the means to make a sandwich with only PB. Luckily the one who dosen't like jelly is my most adventurous eater but she does love a sandwich and WDW is the place for us to have our treats.

TIA
TJ

We just got back yesterday and the only PB&J sandwich in any of the restaurants that we ate at was the Uncrustables. We asked for one at Le Cellier and were told they didn't even have them, he could have mac and cheese if he wanted.

Thanks - wow, I expected them at the counter service restaurants but for some reason I figured the full service restaurants would have regular sandwiches.

At least its my not so picky eater, who at a full serve place would choose soup or salad over a kids meal anyway. Good to know ahead of time - tks for the heads up. At least 50's prime time should still have the real sandwich - after all mama would never serve an uncrustable! (or would she?).

What I have heard (for what it's worth!) is that the restaurants are serving the pre-packaged pbj sandwiches to avoid possible cross-contamination that would be a concern because of peanut allergies.

Hopefully you will be able to keep your little one fed--I know what it is like. We spent one entire trip looking for boiled eggs for breakfast for a 2-year-old!!

Is this true? You can only get packaged PB&J? Does anyone know if you can get the real thing somewhere? Thanks.

I am sure it is annoying but from this Mom of a four year old who could die due to peanut exposure - I am most grateful. Sorry though, I hope you can find some suitable alternatives. Most kids will eat when hungry !!!!

Maybe you could have used a hard-poached egg?

My DD will only eat PB&J at WDW along with french fries and hot dogs so we know all about them! The only place we have seen a standard PB&J was at Pinocchios in MK. Even that was premade so you couldn't get it without jelly. It was also nasty and stale. They must get them brought in from some other place. At Chef Mickeys they made my DD a homemade PB&J sandwhich when they saw her only eating grated parmesan cheese. I'm sure they could have made it without jelly. Ohana's for dinner said they could make DD a PB&J if she wanted but she chose the hot dog. I have only seen Uncrustables at every other place in WDW which was great for us as DD loved them. The Crystal Palace for dinner has rainbow bread that DD loves. It is regular tasting bread but colored really pretty. They also have peanut butter and jelly to make sandwiches yourself. Since DD only ate one slice with PB on it it turned out to be the most expensive kids buffet of the trip!

What about those tubes of peanut butter that you can purchase at supermarkets. They would be easy to stick in your bag and I would think any place could supply you with plain bread to make your own. As a mom of a kid who only eats peanut butter on his P &J's I understand too. I am however glad to see WDW take the precautions that could save the life of a child with the allergy.

My dd only eats pb not j, and I am all for the precautions for allergies, so my question is: why doesn't Uncrustables make a PB only sandwich? Or if they do, why doesn't WDW buy them?
Last trip we brought the tube of PB from home to keep in the room for those late night snack attacks, but dd ended up not eating it anyway. Too much popcorn and ice cream all day, I guess.

Just back from a trip with a very peanutbutter dependent 8 year old. I always carry a small tupperware of peanutbutter with me when we travel. This came in handy at several sit down dinners where a roll or bread basket was served, DS will eat bread with pbutter but not regular butter.

He was able to get a normal pb&j at the Sandcastle Club at the BC. They normally serve uncrustables but since there were no peanut allergy kids in the club that night they offered him a regular one.

We were able to be a side dish of pbutter with bagels at Spoodles and Chef Mickey (you must request pbutter from the kitchen at Chef Mickey, it is not on the buffet).

It seemed like pb&j was offered at less restuarants this trip than before. It is now off the Rose and Crown menu.

I also took ketchup with me to the Japanese Teppan restaurant as I thought they might not have it (they didn't) and knew DS would eat the grilled chicken and steak if he had ketchup (he did).

:sunny:

I just read a review of Spoodles where a child had a bagel with peanut butter and bacon for breakfast. I agree that bringing the Squeeze tube of peanut butter with you would be a good idea- just make sure to use a wet wipe to clean little hands before they go on rides and such just to protect allergic kids.

Could someone explain to me, just b/c I am curious, what the peanut/PBJ food allergy thing is about. Why can't restaurants serve homemade PB&J and can serve the uncrustables? If you are allergic to peanuts, what makes the uncrustables so much safer? Does this mean restaurants do not want to carry PB in their restaurant at all?? I am confussed.... and curious...

Here's the deal.....because the uncrustables are in a package they are not causing as many opportunities for contamination....i.e. someone making a homemade sandwich gets a little peanut butter on the cutting board....without noticing and then is making say a turkey sandwich on the same board and a little pb gets on the bread w/out him or her noticing - it gets served to and eaten by someone like my child - who is allergic....well, my child would have an immediate anaphylactic reaction causing his throat to swell shut and in all likelihood he would go into cardiac arrest if the epi-pen was not administered and he rushed to the ER. Anyway, it isn't a foolproof method of protecting an allergic child but it is a very good way to cut down on the chances of accidental contamination....does this make any sense?

thank you, that makes perfect sense and now I am very glad they serve uncrustables. It must be a little relief for you, tinkie.

thanks for understanding...it is a bit of relief....actually I buy the uncrustables for my older two boys - that way I can pop them right into their lunchboxes without ever having to expose my little guy to even the smell of the peanut butter when I'm making the sandwiches....in the past, even just that has caused him to start throwing up.:( - poor little pumpkin! I'd give anything for him not to have this allergy - but we have learned how to be as careful as we possibly can!
