"Unbirthday" Question in the Parks

Point well made, JMCDAD. In the same way, isn't it special enough Christ was born without us having to give each other gifts? Isn't it special enough the whole family gathers at Easter, Hannukah, Kwanza, etc, without hiding Easter baskets, giving Hannukah gelt, etc?

In my family we celebrate birthdays and Christmas in what most (not all, certainly) would consider the 'traditional' way. Disney is special, no doubt about it. But why judge how someone else chooses to make it just that bit more special for themselves or their loved ones? I can't imagine thinking it's my place to tell them their trip is special enough if they want that little bit more magic.

I am not judging I am expressing an opinion
Like I said ,to each his/her own
Would I do it, no, Disney has plenty of magic for me
One of my children birthday fell on the day last time we were there, on that day only, she wore her button , it was great.
There was a family sitting next to us at dinner that it was obvious it wasn't the child's birthday (they were loud) but pretending that it was, it just left a bad taste in my mouth the way they went about it.

I didn't get the impression you were judging. You expressed an opinion and then I expressed another opinion. The question about anyone judging anyone else wasn't aimed at you specifically, just a general observation of the topic. :)

What proof do you have that a family sitting next to was pretending it was their child's Birthday, besides the fact they were loud? In my opinion that does not proof anything, so unless you can say something else I don't believe you.

I agree. Now you don't know who is lying and is actually having their REAL birthday.

Totally agree with both of you....It just feels wrong to me.

Just Imagine how special Disney could make it if people only wore the button on their actual birthday.
They can't do that when half of the people are walking around with birthday buttons.

Excactly!...Now disney is so full of celebrations that it barely registers.

It's the OP again. When I originally asked the question, I was interested to see what was standard practice for celebrating a birthday which fell close to, but not on the actual date of the trip. After reading so many different opinions, I realize that WDW' s "opinion" and guest opinions can be totally different on this issue. I originally looked at this issue from an individual level. I had no intention of fibbing to get a pin, and I would gladly tell anyone that my birthday was the following week (and I would have been blissfully unaware that my action would be irksome to many people.) But now, I have a slight case of the guilts. Some children and adults will be in the park on their actual birthday, which is very special, and (even though I would be truthful, wear an unbirthday pin, etc) I might be detracting from the specialness of those guests' actual birthdays. In my particular circumstance, I based my reasoning on the fact that I am a teacher and only get allocated vacation times, and I will be turning 30. But the truth is, I love my job, I love my husband, and I am thrilled to be going to WDW. I think it is fine to celebrate your birthday anyway you want at the parks, whether on the actual date or not. I am going to wait. Someday, I will go to Disney on my actual birthday, and that will be very special to me. Until then, if I am going to do something that some people consider dishonest, I am going to make it worth it. From now on, I am 27... ;)

Kdog you have a lovely attitude and listened to all points of view . I hope you have a wonderful birthday.
P.S. The children you teach are very lucky to have such a thoughtful teacher. :thumbsup2

Enjoy!

CR Resort, sorry you don't believe me, I didn't feel the need to put in all sorts of details, the fact that they were loud about it, not just loud in general, I thought kinda conveyed the reason it was obvious.

I am sorry but just because they were loud does not tell the whole story. If you heard them talking like how they are lying about it being their daugther birthday that I can see, but all you said was they were loud & nothing else. So in my opinion them being loud could mean anything.
