Unbelievable Indiana Bill

Keep up the good work, Indiana.

Yes, because a married heterosexual couple is the ONLY kind that could provide a good home. Oh wait, over half of those couples end in divorce, so do we have to take away their children now that they are single? I guess so, according to this line of thought. :sad2:

Another example of why I don't consider myself Republican anymore. I should point out that there are nuts on the extremes from both sides that consider insane legislation that has no chance of ever even coming to a vote. That said, there's enough support for such measures within the Republican party to make me not want to be a part of it.

That's insane. I generally vote Republican, but as someone going through IVF now, this really hits home.

Who are they to decide who deserves to be a parent? Who are they to tell doctors what procedures they can and can't perform?

Instead of focusing on these stupid issues, why not focus on something else....like the 10,000 Mexicans sneaking over the border every day? That would be a better use of time. But, no....they're rather waste their time with this nonsense. Idiots.

I can't believe I missed this thread yesterday. Ugh...if I wasn't already sick to my stomach, that would certainly do it.

Sometimes I wish one state would be able to make crap like this legal, all the religious extemists would be drawn there, and the rest could live happily ever after.

Just an update for those who are incensed by this ridiculous proposed legislation:

October 6, 2005

Indianapolis Star
A controversial proposed bill to prohibit gays, lesbians and single people from using medical procedures to produce a child has been dropped by its legislative sponsor.
State Sen. Patricia Miller, R-Indianapolis, issued a one-sentence statement Wednesday saying: "The issue has become more complex than anticipated and will be withdrawn from consideration by the Health Finance Commission."

FYI - I would like to put a different perspective on this that I have yet to see. I am a married, christian, republican, hoosier who had to use IVF to have my child...we are not all extremist idiots like State Senator Miller. The republican party needs to get back to the laissez-faire style of government and keep out of people's business. Also, in this state there are a lot more moderate christians who do not disapprove of homosexuality than the media portrays - we aren't all down-home yokels!

The only part of this bill that I would have been in favor of is for the state to not subsize the fertility for anyone, married, single, heterosexual, or homosexual. Otherwise, I do not see how the state has any business intervening in or dictating this very personal issue. I believe in people's rights to live their lives how they choose as long as I don't have to pay for it. No one paid for my fertility treatments (I worked a second job to cover the excessive cost).

Flame on.

uh..Deb...WVRevy...

when I interned in Albany in college, I worked for an Assemblyman who sat on several committees. one of my jobs was to obtain copies of the bills that would be considered in commttee each week.

normal parlimentary procedure...

an individual representative, or a group of representatives propose legislation. the proposal is printed and numbered and becomes a "bill", which is sent to the appropriate committee for consideration.

I can't tell from the soundbites, but it sounds like, procedurally speaking, my friend from West Virginia is correct. the proposed legislation was properly referred to as a "bill".

but the argument you two have diverts from the real issue ...the invasion of privacy and the ineterference with reproductive rights that this legislation would represent. no wonder it didn't make it out of committee.

just reread the soundbite...sounds to me like the bill was introduced and printed and sent to comittee.

and to call something a "proposed bill" is redundant. a bill is a proposal.

No surprise that this bill did not make it out of committee. It is horrifying that a legislator could think this might be a good idea.

YES EVERYONE...THE SMELL OF AN ELECION YEAR!

Republicans don't have anything of value to offer except
a HUGE DEFICIT
a FAILING WAR started based on LIES
a FAILED "rescue -?-" attempt after Katrina when we have spent billions
on beefing up our National Security (???)
More Power for the government to restrict the rights of American Citizen via
the "patriot act"
More power to corporations to abolish overtime pay or workers defined
as "being in charge of other employees" even if only temporarily, like in
the case of hospital nurses
More tax breaks for the wealthy even in the face of huge government
spending.
Increasing LAYOFFS
Increasing POVERTY

But come on people, the republicans can still promise to make GAY PEOPLE MISERABLE! That must be worth something? RIGHT?

The Republican Party - We can't protect or serve, but we sure can throw stones!

and for those that may actually support a bill like this one....

they don't care if their bill becomes law - the repulicans just use crap like this to get the (religious right) voters all excited so they'll show up at the polls to cast their vote for hetrosexuality!

Manipulation.

"Bahhhhh, FOUR LEGS GOOD, TWO LEGS BAD...."

You have us all figured out  yet you keep losing elections. If we don't agree with you, we're sheep?? How profound and "open minded."

Stupid law.

Unless they can ban single people from getting pregnant at will as well...this law is sooooo unconstitutional. And either idea is ludicrous.

Quite a leap in logic there.

Rep. Patty here clearly didn't think this one through, did she.
