We will be going to WDW after our cruise and we were thinking of renting a car at port and dropping it off at the airport later.

On budget.com it shows a one way from PC to MCO from Jan 20 - 23 at almost 400.00! I even called and that is the price they quoted me....even worse is the van and it is listed for almost 4,000!!!!

what is with that??

I think the problem is that you're not going to get the weekly rate because you'll only have the vehicle for 3 days. Just to compare, I took a quick look at Hertz, and their price for a mini-van is $325 for those dates. It is cheaper to pick up and dropoff at the Orlando airport for those dates - $209 for the mini-van.

We went to WDW first and Universal after the cruise. I booked a towncar through Happy Limo and it cost me $160.00 total including gratuity. The total was for two different trips, one to get us from PC to Universal and then a second three days later to go from Universal to MCO.

It just looks like Budget's website is having a computation problem. If you look on Expedia, you'll see prices in the area of $34 per day for what you are looking for.

YIKES ANNE! I just tried again and got conflicting information with Expedia. I had Budget check their website and they said that the info is correct as posted. $3000 for a minivan!!! I thought others had posted that one-way rentals were the way to go, but that is a downright silly cost. National is not as convenient as Budget, but on their website, they are showing a rate of $111 for a full size or $123 for a minivan. I used the 1/20-1/23 dates, picking up in Cape Canaveral and returning to Orlando Airport. That's much easier to swallow.

Thanks Tami,
I thought it was unbelievable too, I think it is insulting to even list the minivan that way.

I can get a better price on a compact using a walmart code, and I may do that, but I was hoping for a minivan because we have a complicated circumstance...
gma and DD, 16 returning home while me, dh, dd5, dd7 go to the parks for three days.

With a van, I could just drop them by the airport, but this way we will need to get a car for them to the airport. If the prices stay the way they are, I might just take the car service from PC to MCO and then rent a car there....I can get a decent rate that way. Oddly, I didn't have the same problem one way from MCO to PC....I got a minivan for less than 50 bucks before tax.
At least I have time before my trip to watch for discounts

But, you have to admit, 4,000 for a three day rental is a bit much....I would probably have a private driver for that amount!!

We rented from National a couple of years ago. We rented at the airport and drove to National at Port Canaveral. Took a taxi to the Port then took a taxi to National and dropped off at the airport. It was a hassle and the taxis were nasty!! We got an extended cab pickup truck. We looked funny, but it worked!! I do know that National has drop off and pick up at the Dolphin if that helps. I'm also trying to get a car for a December Disney trip. I'm trying priceline. You might look at Mousesavers.com for rental codes also.

I rented a minivan from Budget last summer for a one way from port to MCO and it costs us $58.00 for the day....

Don't know why that ridiculous price is showing now.

I also rented from Budget for the day we disembark (10/2) after our 9/25/04 cruise and got a price for a midsize car for $30.57 (including taxes) from PC to MCO.

Is that MLK Jr Holiday weekend? Often rental car rates go up during holidays. I have rented cars for 3-4 days for far less than that but the rate is always ridiculous around a holiday. You don't have to have a 7 day rental to get a good deal.

maybe you'd be better off renting it for your whole cruise too, if you are staying at a hotel with free parking b/4?

We have a SUV rented for a Thursday PM - Saturday AM (Thanksgiving week) and it's only costing us a little over $100 for two days with Budget. That is for a one way from MCO to Port.

Those prices are insulting!

I am renting a van Sept. 20th to the 30th from EZ Rental for $380.00. That is 10 days, $4000.00 is crazy!

It has to be a mistake....maybe the Budget reps are saying it is correct...but that is impossible....how could renting a car cost more than putting a down payment on a new one!!!!

MJ

Hmm... Did Budget's PC office happen to be located in a mobile home park?

For comparison....I just checked the Avis site and to rent a minivan for Jan 20-23 picking up in Pc and returning to MCO is $287.66 including taxes and fees.

You can probably get it down even lower if you use one of the codes listed at www.mousesavers.com

I still think Budget has a screw loose in their system online.

And now...
the rest of the story...

Yesterday I was able to book:
Budget
MCO to PC, minivan, one day 53.00 total
PC to MCO, minivan, one day 73 total
MCO to MCO, compact, 4 days 123.00 total

For a grand total of about 250.00

For all the complicated manuevering we have to do I think that is an alright deal....

today the budget website says taht 4 days of a minivan is 350 bucks...not great, but a far cry better than 4,000!!!! I am sure you are all correct and it was a computer glitch, but to have their telephone folks offering that as an appropriate quote still seems bizarre to me.

Thanks for listening to my rant!
