Unauthorized pool visits +

CM's were handing out wristbands at the BWV pool this past weekend. It was so nice because you could actually find a lounger to sit in. I want to be able to enjoy the pool at my resort without having to fight for a lounger with random people who aren't DVC members or even staying at the resort or on property. That is why I wish they would check room keys at every pool. They don't have to do it 24/7, but if word got out that the CM's are doing random key checks, it could cut down on non-guests using the resort pools.

Agreed! I hope that these reports form BLT and BWV are part of a trend that will continue. I do not enjoy using the pools or the pool areas when they are too crowded; a bit fewer people would certainly give me more incentive/desire to use the pools (that I am helping to pay for, after all).

We did a split stay during our October trip last year. We stayed at BCV and we were given a wristband every time we went down to the pool and had to show our card to get the wristband. We also stayed at OKW and Art of Animation and neither of those resorts checked our room keys.

Boardwalk also checks room keys during busy season.

...She told me that the only DVC pool I wouldn't be allowed to use is the special themed pool at Beach club. The same is true if I would make a reservation using my points for somebody else to stay there. ...

If you make a reservation for someone and they compensate you for that reservations (ie "renting points"), they cannot pool hop. If you have guests staying with you on a reservation, they can pool hop if you are with them (and pool hopping is not blacked out or not permitted at that pool).

The only place I've seen them check IDs is SAB at BC/YC. And then at that, only when it's crowded to begin with.

Simple answer, they don't.

Nope, they were checking ID's at SAB when I was there in January, one of the slowest months, and it was dang cool too, so I wasn't about to step into the water!

I may actually have to try pool hopping at Poly when I am at GFV in Dec. Their pool bar has some awesome drinks!! Anyone know if they have pool towels at the pool?

Yes, all deluxes have towels at the pool.

The only time I have not seen them doing wristbands at SAB was on a Sept trip about 3 years ago and we went down about 6pm. There were maybe a dozen people in the entire pool.

And you can get Dole Whip at Capt Cooks. :)

We stayed at both BLT and BWV week of May 19-26 and used both pools. Both had CM's checking resort ID's, although you need your KTTW card to access BLT as it is gated. At BWV, I saw many people being told to leave BWV pool when they couldn't produce KTTW card. I heard many "stories" about why they there. One family actually brought McDonalds breakfast with them and were getting ready to set it up at one of the tables. The pool was very crowded and people were looking for chairs. My son and I arrived about 9:45 and at 10:00 the lifeguard announced that we would all need to show our card and then be given a wristband.

I am glad they do this, as I paid alot of money for my DVC Membership (and others pay alot of money to stay here) and it is definately not fair for those not staying at Boardwalk (or any other Deluxe Resort) to use the pools at the Deluxe Resorts.

I'm new to dvc and staying at BLT and bwv for the first time this summer, but the pool hopping 'perk' seems to be a joke. Most of the pools are excluded. What pools are available to actually hop to? If staying at BLT can I get on the monorail and hop to the pool at GF or Poly?

First of all, welcome to the DIS!

Only a few of the pool are excluded:

Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool
at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht &
Beach Club Resorts, the leisure pool at Disney’s Beach Club Villas, and
the pools at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. There are no exceptions to
this policy.

and you will be able to use one of them. That leaves only 5 pools excluded for pool hopping. Of course, since you're going in the summer pool hopping may be suspended entirely and you will have to be satisfied with BLT's pool.

We are members and did hop to BWV the Friday of the first weekend of Star Wars...it was 1pm and the pool was almost empty...we did check with the lifeguard before changing, and we stayed about 45 minutes before catching the boat to BCV for a nap. It's a nice perk. We also took our grandson over to Caribbean Beach and he loved the splash area and played with the kids over there. :beach:

A few years back we were staying at BCV and our room over looked the pool. It wasn't crowded but a few people were swimming and it started to rain. I saw people grab there stuff and head in except one family. After everyone left they pushed there baby stroller over to the towel bin and loaded it full and headed for the parking lot.

Yep. :)

What is it about the BLT pool that makes people want to pool hop there? It is mostly people from value resorts that are stopping by there?

Maybe people walk over from MK? I dunno. I don't think the pool is all that fascinating. :lmao: If I am going to pool hop I would rather go to a pool like the Poly. I have never noticed too many people at the BLT pool. At least it has a fence around it! :)
