I have Membership Magic Beyond for 2025 and have already used the benefit to buy 12 points and gotten 12 free for a July reservation. That reservation falls under my 2024 use year (I have Oct UY). Now I want to buy 2 points to complete a night in November (2025 UY) but I'm told I'm not able to because I have MMB for calendar year 2025 and have maxed out the benefit. Normally it wouldn't be a problem because buying OTUP is per UY, not per calendar year. I asked to just buy without using the MMB benefit but was told no because having the MMB benefit makes it impossible.

I feel like there should be a warning somewhere. I actually asked about this when I first purchased MMB months ago and was told that buying a couple of points for 2025 UY wouldn't be a problem. So this is upsetting... FYI

I'm glad you brought this up as I have also used my mmb/otup for this use year but will need to buy more for my next use year in a couple months (coming up on 7 month mark for my reservation). I was wondering how that was gonna work out but now I can see I may be screwed.

I think you should call again and talk to a different CM…MMBY was not supposed to charge the OTU rules - just allow you to get up to 12 free of the 24 max you’re allowed per membership/per UY. So, while you won’t get any more BOGO OTU points - you should still be able to purchase up to 24 for UY 2025 since you prior 24 you bought using the MMBY benefit were for UY 2024…at least, that’s how I read all the documentation.

Hmmm, MMB is a new program -- I wonder if this might be a situation where you call back and ask the question again?

Definitely keep escalating because this was not what was told to me, nor are the terms and conditions written that way.

It says all rules for OTU points are still the same and we can buy 24 per UY.

Obviously you are aware you don’t get a discount on them but they should be available for full purchase.

My guess is that it’s another situation where the system wasn’t set up correctly to handle this aspect of it.

Resolved. Had to get a supervisor involved, who then spoke to someone else until finally they let me buy the 1 point I needed. FYI for folks who might end up in the same situation, @Sandisw 's explanation above is correct but not everyone at MS is well versed on these unique cases yet

This is good to hear... I need to call them tomorrow for some points for this UY, and then plan to buy more points to cap off a trip once we hit the 7 month window for next UY.

Perhaps they have changed it recently but here's a statement in the terms and conditions.

  • A maximum of twenty-four (24) one-time-use Vacation Points (including purchased one-time-use Vacation Points and Bonus Points) can be acquired by a Member per Benefit Season.

That has always been the case.

It's talking about the benefit season of MMB, or it would have said per UY. It's clear to me that this is one set of OTUP per MMB period (Jan-Dec).

What's confusing people is that the set of points can reside in different UY's depending on the reservasion date they were created for. But again, the MMB BOGO purchase doesn't reset at a new UY.

I just meant that those terms for MMB have been there from the start

So, that program terms always said it’s per benefit year to get the BOGO deal…and not by UY.

I agree it’s what causes confusion for people
