Unable to enter hotels with a temperature?

a friend of mine said she heard that if you have a temperature you not only can't enter the parks you can't enter the hotels at Disneyworld. Has anyone else heard this?

Very possible-they are doing Temperature checks at the Universal Resorts.

There are going to be some hotels where it is going to be difficult for them to do Temp checks. OKW, and Saratoga and the Tree houses are ones that come to mind.

I think this is the reason Disney added the line that says "guests should check their temperature at home before arriving" to one of their latest updates. They know they wont be able
to check every guest going into the hotels.

This is what my friend was wondering. It would make it even more difficult if one had gone down by plane, having finally overcome the quarantine restriction for NYC-FL.

I haven't heard/read anything about WDW or Disneyland doing this. However, Universal Orlando is. They have a real bubble set up, so it's very easy for them to do daily temp checks at the hotel for hotel guests, instead of at the security entrance to Citywalk. If you arrive with a temp, their wording made it sound like they would work with you. I do remember reading that if you develop a temp, they will allow you to quarantine in your room, instead of kicking you to the curb. Not sure what they will do if you arrive with one though.

It's too hard to deny room reservations due to fever with so many grey areas and residual complications. Different scenario at the parks where the pros/cons play out in favor for temp checks. They might take your temp at check in? Who knows. They could politely request the feverish to stay out of public areas when possible and remind them of the park gate policies. Maybe instead they'll just rely on the gates for temp screens because 99.9% of guests will end up there anyway.

Months ago I was thinking through options that might help keep WDW up & going while the virus lingers at lower levels. It crossed my mind they could make a resort available to act as a quarantine compound for mildly sick guests and employees. That offers onsite guests consideration for their plight and helps reduce employee spread since many of them live as roommates. WDW already has decades of experience helping sick guests who have contagious illness. It's a part of life.

Unlikely... but something along these lines wouldn't totally surprise me if spread flared up.

Seriously! They are trying to protect their employees and other guests. This is a whole new way of operating for the resorts and employees and guests. People need to be patient, understanding and not joke about the policies that Disney is implementing just as CMs need to be patient and understanding.

Yes. Seriously. So you get to your hotel, someone in your party is running a temperature for a possible multitude of reasons. Now what. Really. You can't sleep there? Are you getting a refund? Going to have to sleep in your car assuming you drove?

Look, I get it, I really do, but most of it is just safety theater at this point. If things are so bad they need to check your temperature at hotel entry, park entry, and require you to wear a mask everywhere except while eating or sleeping, this stuff should all remain closed.

There were always almost daily posts here on the DIS about sick kids or getting sick at WDW. I would think at least half of those there was fever involved. So before people get all "shamey" about people asking and wondering about how it will get handled, I think it is a honest good question.

I have a child that has a diagnosis of "Fever of Unknown Origin". He literally can and does spike a fever at complete random, and it can and does go away in a matter of hours. He has had every test in the book and has no contagious diseases, no cancer, etc. I know this is rare, but there ARE reasons that people get a fever that are not scary. It has happened to him at WDW. I take him to our room until it breaks, and then we continue on. I wonder what they would do with us in that scenario (we don't have a trip coming up in the next few weeks, so hopefully it won't matter, but it is something I think about with life going forward)

Yeah, I asked Universal, since they have temp checks when you arrive at or return to the resort. Their answer was that you had to go seek medical advice and get a medical clearance. If you get an answer that is "return to your hotel and recuperate" then that's what you do. They give you another room to isolate in (no wristband until you're fever free), and the rest of your party can move about freely. If the doctor recommends you go to the emergency room/hospital, then they expect you to do that.

My understanding (I didn't ask directly, since it didn't apply to us) is that a doctor's note explaining an existing or expected fever would be accepted. So for a kid with an ear infection, you can take a note from your doctor that says "Under my care, fever has been assessed, child may return to/enter hotel" and you're fine.

I believe the situation you cited is only if you register a temp after already having checked in. I don't know what happens if you register a temp at check in. You could always go down the road to WDW or a non-park hotel. I don't think those are checking temps. I honestly don't think they should let your traveling party roam around either. If one of you has it, the others could be presymptomatic and start showing symptoms at any moment. If one of us registers a temp, none of us are going to the park. We will drive home. However, my family rarely measures a fever unless they are truly sick. We are actually taking our temps everyday at home, just in case we miss any other signs of the virus. We plan to do this on our own everyday during our UO and WDW visits in July too. It is a bit of theater, but what the heck else are they going to do to make people feel comfortable?

And this is why the temp checks won’t really mean anything. As a former preschool teacher, I used to love the kids who would arrive at school and say “I had a fever this morning, so mommy gave me medicine!”
