About a couple of weeks ago I stop at starbucks to get a coffee. Now I am a Dunkin Donuts kinda a person simple with my coffee, but that day the line was too long and I had limited time. So I went to starbucks. As I was looking over the menu hoping to find maybe a F.V. or hazlenut regular coffee I came across a eggnog latte. Bingo I love eggnog and I love coffee so I must like this. I order one eggnog latte grande please!!! After I pay with my first born I got the drink. There was this smell coming from the cup. It was a smell that I have smelled before. The drink also had a very spicy taste. this smell and taste was giving me a headache which turned into a migraine which are the death of me. As I am shopping in target with my eggnog latte grande, with the pounding migraine, I continue to drink this mess because I paid for it with my first born.

Today I went out because guess what I wanted, you got it a grande eggnog latte but this time minus the nutmeg, hoping that it will be better and not get a migraine. Well guess what I now have a headache which I am sure will turn into a migraine in the next hour.

ok no reason for this post just to let someone know. Enjoy

You have been to the dark side which is Starbucks. I have to stay away from that place. It truly is an addiction. My DH thinks he is doing me a favor by bringing home a latte for me on occaision. It only makes me want more. I agree with you on the DD coffee. Yum. Unfortunately, there is only one DD in my whole town and it is a pain to get to, but of course, Starbucks is convenient and has a drive thru. Oh well................ :rotfl:

Sorry about your headache, but I just have to laugh that the line was too big at dunkin donuts so you went to Starbucks. :rotfl: Our Starbucks always have HUGE lines. Sometimes 10 cars in the drive-thru

yummmm coffee. I avoid Starbucks because I get confused by the zillion and one choices. The menu is written in Fritalian. :rotfl2:

After being a Starbucks customer for 1 1/2 years, I am now a Starbucks partner, and will get my first paycheck tomorrow. What a blast it is to work there, and the discount is great. (It is also MUCH harder than you may think, so be nice to us poor baristas!)
Some people who are not used to espresso can get headaches from the jolt of caffeine-try a decaf next time. The eggnog used is just normal eggnog, mixed with non fat milk for a non fat.
Sorry you had a headache-I know how much migraines stink.

Starbucks doesn't do a thing for me - and I love coffee. (And any flavored coffees make me kind of queasy.) Have you tried the new McDonalds coffee? It's delish!

yum!!!, eggnog latte :thumbsup2

- I don't know what I would do if they brought on my migraines!!! :furious:

Nutmeg gives you migranes? That must be hard if you love eggnog. Doesn't most eggnog have nutmeg in it? I'm guessing they left the nutmeg off the top, but nutmeg is probably an ingredient in the eggnog they used for the latte.

A couple of months ago i was in meijers & they announced you can get a free sample of starbucks coffee. I had never had starbucks before so i thought why not. Figured i'd find out what all the talk was about. I asked for a sample & all i can say is "ICK" "DOUBLE ICK" I hated it, I've never been a fan of strong :coffee:

I wonder if you're allergic to something in the eggnog? Or perhaps it is (as another poster said) that you aren't used to strong coffee. I had Turkish coffee once, in a teeny tiny demitasse cup, and I swear to you, my ears began to ring and I had a screamin' headache! I am a fan of Starbucks' mocha, however... Mmmmm! :teeth:

So sorry to hear about your migraines that's terrible.

Personally I hate all coffee, but... after reading this thread I have a few comments to make...

1... yes starbucks is definately addictive! My dh won't confess (in fact he's arguing the point now) but he's totally addicted. His thing is the gingerbread latte though...
2... Drive through Starbucks.... no way... we don't have those in the UK.. and as I type this I can hear the excitement in dh's voice and see the twinkle in his eye simply at the thought of it.
3... WHAT is eggnog? I have heard of it before (while you were sleeping film with sandra bullock) but have no idea what it is (although dh has just informed me that you can get eggnog lattes in SB at the moment... I was like d'uh)

Maybe the peppermint mocha latte would be a better choice.

Oh I am so stopping on my way to work tomorrow :bitelip:

Sorry you had a bad experience! I love Starbucks coffee. I was just there yesterday and indulged in an eggnog latte. Little slice of heaven really :teeth:

I always assumed this was a British concoction, so it surprises me that you don't know what it is. According to Wikipedia, it is suspected to have originated in Great Britain, but is now not a common drink there, much more popular in the US. (Go figure. :confused3 )

Anyway, here's the info from Wikipedia:
Eggnog (or egg nog) is a type of milk-based beverage popular in North America (and to a lesser extent in the UK) during the winter holidays and possibly derived from posset (a medieval European beverage made with hot milk).

The origins, etymology, and even the ingredients used to make the original eggnog drink, are a matter of some debate.

It is believed that eggnog, or a very similar drink, originated in East Anglia, England. An article[1] by Nanna Rognvaldardottir, an Icelandic food expert, states that the drink adopted the "nog" part of its name from the word "noggin," a middle English phrase used to describe the strong ale, with which it was sometimes mixed. Another name for this English drink was "Egg flip".

The ingredients for the drink were too expensive and uncommon for the lower classes, but it was popular among the aristocracy. "You have to remember, the average Londoner rarely saw a glass of milk," says author and historian James Humes ("To Humes It May Concern", July 1997). "There was no refrigeration, and the farms belonged to the big estates. Those who could get milk and eggs to make eggnog mixed it with brandy or Madeira or even sherry."[2]

By the 1800s, the drink had crossed the Atlantic and arrived in America. Instead of fortifying eggnog with heavily taxed brandy or wines, rum was used. Rum was easily and cost-effectively traded through Triangular Trade from the Caribbean. The inexpensive liquor coupled with plentiful farm and dairy products helped the drink become very popular in America.[3]

Modern eggnog typically consists of milk, eggs, and sugar mixed together, and may be served with or without added spirits. Other ingredients include spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, or allspice. Frequently cream is substituted for some portion of the milk, which makes a much richer drink. Toppings may include vanilla ice cream, eggnog flavored ice cream, or whipped cream.

Love the peppermint mocha latte, yum!

I tried the eggnog latte a few seasons ago and didn't care for it. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of eggnog, not sure what possessed me to get it. I also don't care for the gingerbread latte they have either. I'm a mocha/peppermint mocha kinda gal I guess.

Sorry you have a headache. I've had a sinus headache every day for about 2 months now, so I can surely sympathize. Hope you feel better tomorrow -- and from here out, just say no to eggnog lattes!

I know what you're saying about the migraines, except the only difference for me is if I don't have my daily iced latte from Starbucks I get the headache.

DH figured that he could save us a ton of money by buying me an espresso machine for Christmas this year so I can make my own iced lattes. In theory it shouldn't be too hard: shots of espresso mixed with milk and add ice. BUT....we'll see. I went out and bought a Starbucks mug so that I could at least feel like I was having the "real" thing.

I work right next to a Starbucks. Over the pass few years, I had a frappucino here and there. I made the unfortunate mistake of having an eggnog latte a few weeks ago..now I am hooked! Between that and the peppermint mocha....mmmm. Good thing I only work 3 days a week, because this habit can get expensive!

My parents bought me an espresso machine years ago. I had a friend who had one as well, so she came over to show me how to use it: "OK, and when you're heating the milk, be careful when you release the steam, because if you don't do it right it will explode all over you."

I was too afraid to ever heat the milk properly (I'd just zap it in the microwave), and honestly, it just doesn't taste the same.
