"umbrella" stroller question

We will be taking my 3 year old step-daughter to Disney in November. Right now we take an "umbrella" stroller where ever we go just in case she doesn't want to walk.

Does anyone have any experience using an umbrella stroller at Disney or would you recommend I rent a better stroller from ABBF?

Any info would be appreciated

We took our umbrella stroller for our 2 year old in May and were really glad that we didn't have a bigger stroller. We carried a backpack and hung it on the back of the stoller if she was in it and on the front if she wasn't . Our friends were always having to unload the basket of their stoller and it seemed to get in the way. If we had a basket, we would fill it up. Not having one keeps us light.

I agree, if you can use an umbrella stroller, I would use that. The important thing is she comfortable in it and will sleep in it. If she's already used to being in it at home, she should be fine it it there. The lighter the better!

We have 2 strollers that we bring to WDW. A cheap umbrella stroller (in fact I think it was free from Carters because I bought so many clothes ) And a Chicco Caddy, which has a few more features than a regular umbrella stroller. They work great for us. The kids are comfy but it is easy to fold one up and hook the handle over the handle of the other and pull it along if one child wants to walk. Also, they are eaier to handle on the busses and shuttles than the larger strollers. Also, your 3 year old will probably walk more than ride if she is anything like my ds. Have a great trip!

I guarantee you will be happier bringing an umbrella stroller. It is easier to get around the airport w/ a stroller and it can be checked at the gate. The time you waste getting one stroller at each park and dropping it off each day would be saved. Plus there might be other non park areas you may like it. Plus, if you get a "deluxe" one, they have baskets, holders etc... that would allow you not to hold a backpack etc.. but still fold up like an umbrella. I ordered a Schwinn Umbrella stroller after a lot of searching and high recommendations from here. It has a little wider of a seat, reclines, lots of holders, and holds up to 50 lbs so it is better for older kids. I had a smaller one but felt that my 3 y old dd needed one more comfortable for her for this trip and other day or weekend trips we take. It is $49.99 at www.babydepot.com

I used one for my DD, then almost 2, when we went to Disneyland last year. I didn't bring one with us because I thought renting one at the park would be easier... wow, was I wrong. After trying that one day, we headed to the nearest Wal Mart and bought an inexpensive one that also had a small canopy to help shade her from the sun a bit. Although saving money was nice ($7 a day rental vs. $14 purchase), what was the deciding factor was the walking we did outside the park. Carrying a sleeping child from the park to the hotel at the end of the day was no fun when I was tired myself. After reading some guidebooks' descriptions of the size of some of the resorts, I think having a stroller to just get around those would be a necessity.

The one thing I didn't like about the stroller I bought vs. a more "cadillac" stroller was that it did not recline so napping in it didn't work out very well. Having a basket would have been nice but we just used the handles and made sure to redistribute the load when she wasn't in the stroller - to prevent it falling backwards.

For our trip to WDW in September, I'm considering getting a more deluxe umbrella stroller. I'll be checking out children's consigment shops first but even at $49.99, it would be worth it to have in the airport as well as at the parks and resorts.

Thank you for all of your great info. I am going to keep the umbrella style and just upgrade on one with some holders and baskets (Thanks Suzanna!)

I won;t even use a regular umbrella stroller around the block-I find myself hunching over because the handles are too low and also stepping on the back wheels all the time. I'm not tall, either 5'4".
I do have an umbrella stroller that has high handles(and has a canopy and reclines flat), which i've never seen again since I bought it. LOL

If you use the umbrella normally and it is comfortable than go for it-just test it out before you go.
