Umbrella stroller: gate check or carry on?

Hi,

We bought a cheap umbrella stroller for getting our 3yo through airports quickly, getting around large resort properties after she's worn out, etc...

We're flying, and have 50 minutes to make a connecting flight. We've never gate checked anything before, so we don't know if 50 min is enough time to retrieve the stroller & make the connection. How does gate check work? Do we have to go to baggage claim to get the stroller, or will it be there when we exit the plane? If gate check isn't viable in this situation, does anyone know if Delta allows umbrella strollers in the overhead bins?

Thanks for any help!!!

Marci

The gate agents will give you a claim ticket and put a tag on your stroller. You will be allowed to keep the stroller with you until you enter the plane. You can pick up your stroller as you exit the plane, it should be there waiting for you. If not it should only be a few minutes before you get it. Very simple and convenient!

As party_of_five wrote, the gate agent will give you a tag - they are usually on the lookout for families with strollers but if they don't see you, go request one. Even if you wanted to take the stroller on the plane they probably won't let you. They are too bulky. We have never waited for more than a few moments for our gate-checked strollers. :sunny:

the other posters are correct--we did this on our last trip---The bonus is it will not count against your checked bags so it is like a free piece you are allowed!
