Hey all, we're just a few days from arriving in Disney!!! My FIL is permanently in a Quantum chair http://www.monroewheelchair.com/Catalog/Product/2097/Quantum-614

She had an idea to add an umbrella so that if we were sitting in parade or out in the sun he wouldn't getting burned. I wanted to add some pics here to see if you think these mods were ok and won't give them any trouble while in disney or getting in. I think it's just a regular umbrella, not a beach umbrella or anything. Please take a look and let me know.

You will get a number of different responses with this one.. some will see nothing wrong with it and others will say no way.. I guess you could try it at the parks and see what the CM say.. Saying that, Im sure from day to day, and CM to CM you will get different responses too...

are you talking about adding something like a canopy to the chair if so I think it would be fine you maybe asked to take it off for show that are inside

Your pictures you posted of the umbrella (?) are giving an error message when I try to view them.

Not sure of what you all want to attach (I do know that there are generic "arms" that can be attached to most wheelchairs and scooters to hold things like umbrellas) but remember that you will probably have to remove/take down anything like that for rides, shows, and bus travel. It could potentially create more work and frustration than is intended.

Without seeing what you have in mind, perhaps a large hat would be easier to deal with?

Hmm..let me try this

I can see the pictures and would say those umbrellas would be an issue.
They look like golf umbrellas, larger than regular size. Since they extend out further than the wheelchair, they are going to be an issue with just getting around - they are wider than the chair and will be at eye level for walkers.
You would need to remove it in lines and attractions because of the width.
Even waiting for parades and other shows, you will likely be asked to put the umbrella down because it is in other people's space.

The final issue is that it probably won't protect as much as you think. Much of the umbrella is behind the seat. Because of the sun angle, it will be peaking in at an angle for much of the day.
The final issue would be how much it interfere with her vision for driving.

If opened I see this as a danger for people walking thru the parks, and I am sure a CM will ask for it to be closed.
It will block other guests views of parades and again, I am sure a cast member will ask for it to be closed. There are other better methods of sun protection.

I just saw the closed umbrella picture. Even with it closed, you will likely be asked to remove it while in lines and attractions. It will block other guests' view for shows and may be too high for getting thru some areas and onto buses.

I push DD in her wheelchair, and we usually just carry a small umbrella to use when needed. When I'm pushing, she sometimes holds it over her legs for protection, and we sometimes use it while waiting for a parade, but always close it up when the parade starts. Going through a crowd is impossible with it opened.

when I go with a friend of mine who uses a wheel chair for support I will some times sit and open a very small umbrella more for a cocoon then for any thing the umbrella is smaller then the wheel chair and I keep it very low

1) Most CM's will have you put the umbrella away.
. . . blocks the view of those behind you
. . . low enough to stab someone walking by
2) Try one of those small parasols from Epcot-France.
