Are there Beach umbrellas available on CC?

Or am I allowed to bring any type of Umbrella onboard?

We can not afford a cabana at the beach, so I was hoping to bring or reserve an umbrella to shield my toddler as needed.

Thanks

Lots of umbrellas (and trees) on Castaway Cay. I wouldn't want to have to pack/handle an umbrella on a cruise.

i would suggest getting out there early. While there are a ton of umbrellas they are a bit spread out and people tend to grab those seats first.

And the silly part of that is - the shade moves. So, even if they are in the shade to start with, the longer they stay there, the shade goes away.

The umbrellas don't move. The loungers/chairs do.

In 7 stops at CC, we have never been able to get an umbrella first thing -- or at least right under one. I think it's much harder with the bigger ships now then it is with the smaller ones. Even on SB, we've never lucked out with an umbrella. We usually plop our stuff on or under a chair and head for the water and by the time we come back from lunch can sometimes grab one in the afternoon :confused3

We usually get off the ship(Fantasy) at around 10 AM and have no problem finding an umbrella available. We like to be close to the snorkeling and tubing section though by She Sells. Perhaps it is harder closer to the water.

The best spot we ever had was to go as far as we could go before the cabanas. Take the tram to the second stop (where you have to get off to transfer to Serenity Bay). Walk straight forward, past the rental shack. There is a little peninsula that sticks out. Go part way down there, and stop before the sign that says Cabana Guests only. There is a row of palm trees there, and it is so far from the ship that fewer people head there right away. It is very convenient to Cookies Too and a bar. I am very fair-skinned and need lots of shade, and I loved that spot.

Plenty of umbrellas. The ones close to the water are reserved about 15 seconds after docking. You can usually get them a few rows back pretty easily.

I'm always the one that gets off as soon as you can. I like the chairs on the family beach in the front row under two umbrella. Close to the bathroom and lunch.

Thanks everyone!

What time do they usually let you off ship on port days?

Just got off the Dream today. Castaway all ashore time was 8:30. They arrive in port earlier but all of the provisions for Castaway (food) are onboard and have to be unloaded. The majority of the crew also provide services on the island so they also have to get in place.

Everyone has to be back onboard by 4:45. Around 3:00-3:30 most everything starts shutting down.

We did the jet ski excursion at 10. Then went to serenity bay at about 11:30, ate lunch, went on the beach about 12:15 and there were plenty of umbrella space left. You will have to walk a little further but it's also further away from everyone else.

I still saw plenty of people that thought they could "reserve" a hammock but since we were there later I did finally get to try one as a lot of people either leave right after lunch or around 2.

Weather and the water temperature were perfect yesterday.

Terrific tip -- thanks. I've had too many bouts with skin cancer to risk direct exposure to the sun and always look for shade. I wear huge brim hats in the water and 50+ sunscreen LOL

Can you move the chairs down closer to water and maybe a little more away from the others... Those pictures are great except I have no desire to be packed in like sardines.

Yes you can. People typically don't move the lounge chairs but the regular chairs most people will move down to the water and either sit with their feet or put the whole chair in the water. Make sure to leave something on your chair down by the water if you go back to sit in your lounger for a while because people will often sit in the chairs moved down to the water if no one is in them.
