How do you get blisters away from pointe shoes/skates? Lyke omigosh the rink just opened up and I do NOT want to suffer from blisters no more! And on top of that, if I'm not skating in my friend home made ice rink on their backyard or the one at the rec center, I'm beating guys at hockey with my neighbours. And how are we supposed to beat them if our feet are killing us?!

Second question, how long does it take you to break in new pointe shoes/skates?

Thankz youz,

k, well pointe may be different from skating, but biggest rule for pointe: cut your toe nails as frequently as possible (not too short though as disgusting as that sounds)........... cause if your nails are loong long, they cut into your other toes and don't give you blisters, but disgusting bloody cuts (trust me, i no)............... anyways, place band-aids on your cuts/open blisters when you dance/skate, but otherwise leave your wounds open to the air. also, there's this stuff called New-Skin, and it burns when you put it on, but it's supposed to form a layer of skin over your wound to help it heal quicker (it's mainly used for BLISTERS. oh, and make sure your shoes fit properly. i did pointe for like 4 hours straight at a strenuous audition, and now i have a huge bruise UNDER my toe nail (how sickening), and it's still there a few months later!.................. anyways, i'd imagine that's kinda the same for skates, and i hoped i helped in some way!

Those heel grippers will do wonders for pointe shoes. They help prevent blisters. I think you can buy them at dance stores and places like Walgeens. I really like band aid brands band aids made specifically for blisters also. I've noticed my blisters heel way faster when I use those as opposed to normal band aids. Also use padding. I know people talk about not being able to feel the floor and such, but normally you can wear a small amount without that becoming an issue.

I figure skated for 7 years and played hockey for 2 years after that, so believe me when I tell you this. The best way to avoid blisters with skates is to tie them tightly. Start at the bottom laces and pull each set going up until you can't pull any tighter (but not so tight as to cut off your circulation!). This may hurt your fingers for the moment, but it's worth not having blisters later. Whenever I skate with my friends they all have me tie their skates, because when they tie their own skates they end up skating on their ankles, the skates are so loose! :rotfl: Tight is key!

Also, wear comfortable, snug-fitting socks, and get skates that are one size bigger than your shoes. It takes about a month of daily use to thoroughly break in skates.
