Has anyone done an Ultra before??
Any advice as to how I can find out about them?
I was looking in to the Florida Keys one next month, but my arm will not be fixed in time.
I really like the idea of 100 miles.(thats why i'm syko!!!!)

I have only done "baby" ultras so far (50k), but I am looking at an 8-hour timed ultra later this year. I would recommend checking out http://www.ultrunr.com/ for some information on ultras, training, and so forth.

Thanks for the link, I knew there had to be a web site somewhere.

I just read what an ultra was and you must be syko. Here I am, dragging my feet at 13.1 miles. Good luck to you.

Just found a 50K that is suitable for a chair, and it fits in with the NY marathon.
I will only do it if I get in to NY though as it will be on my way home.
Also on my to do list is a 500K I found, (not this year though, I need to wait until my DD is older as she would be with my DH as crew).

I have done 40+ ultras(most 50 milers) as well as 40+ marathons. I actually attempted Western States 100 in 1997(DNF'd at mile 56 due to viral infection). Training at 90+ mile weeks is very tough and using 50 mile races as training runs takes lots of time.

I like ultras as they are low key and people are much more friendly. It is a journey more than a race. If you want to see and know about West Coast ultras, visit my website http://www.ultrarunner.net . I am retired from ultras but RD 8 of them a year now

Thanks for your link, I will have a look.
I currently train at 126 - 196 miles a week, it just depends on time, I am slowly increasing to 280.

Sounds like you are spending your recuperation time planning :thumbsup2

A 500K? :scared1:

I need to do something, I am going nuts........I want to crank!!!!

The 500K sounds like fun, and it is one of a very few races that has a course that would take a chair, most seem to go over dirt tracks etc.
The fastest time a runner has done the 500K is 3 days 7 hours!!!!!!

You run 126-196 miles a week? And trying for 280 :confused3

I assume that includes a majority of cycling?

I'm a wheelchair, thats why my milage is high, and the 280 miles is my goal if I want to be able to play with the "big boys" in my sport.
