I am thinking about splurging and renting some DVC points to stay at Beach Club for 3 -4 days. Can I purchase an UPH, and if so, does this make sense? I would probably stay offsite for the night of arrival, and check in to BCV first thing in the morning to take full advantage of all of the benefits of being on site. We would also be moving offsite again after BCV to spend a couple of days at US/IOA. With SAB available, I doubt if we would go to a water park, but we would want to take advantage of Disney Quest at least once. Would it be more economical just to buy a 4 day park hopper, and separate Disney Quest admissions? Or with the park hopper plus tickets are the 'Plus features" pretty much free anyway ( compared to the cost of the Non-hoppers, I think they are just a little bit more). I guess what I really need to know is how much it costs for 3 adults ( DD will be 10) and one child for UPH for 4 days. ( I just took the roundabout way to ask!)

Can't remember if you can buy a UMP pass if you are renting points, but I think you can.

Remember the UMP is only good from the time you check in to mid-night on the day you check out.

Since you will be staying off-site for a few days and might want to go to the parks, I would suggest getting a Park Hopper pass since the unused days never expire and can be used for future visits.

Wish I knew for sure (especially because we're planning a similar trip to yours). Currently, my understanding is that it would be no problem to purchase a UPH at the desk during check-in. I don't know about the advanced purchase.

Mostly, I just wanted to mention that purchasing a separate DQ admission (I'm I making up an abbreviation here?) would be a hard thing for me to do knowing that we would not be spending much time there.

Last trip, we used our UPH to make 2 afternoon trips to DQ to have fun (when it’s not so crowded), cool off, and enjoy a relatively reasonably priced lunch. The UPH worked out well for us in that regard.

cant get em...UPH is not available to anyone using the DVC...
this is one of the very few reasons we have not gotten into DVC

we borrowed points from a friend for our december trip and its been he#$ trying to plan to save money for food save money for a park hopper, etc......I miss the, buy the whole package that includes passes, stay, food if u get silver....Sure this all prob averages to the same pricing in the end.....But i would have had it all paid for by now and not be worrying about can I afford
to put aside 50 or 10o dollars for the last day for food......
gawd its been a nightmare.....we still dont even have our passes yet

Absolutely untrue. As a DVC member I can tell you that you can purchase the UPH. In fact, if you don't want to use it last day you are there because you might not go to a park that day, they will let you leave that day off and not charge for it. DVC members actually get 10% off the price of the UPH, and the hotel sometimes gives that discount to persons who show up using rented points.

I agree with the previous poster...you can absolutely purchase the UPH's when you check in at any DVC....and depending on how your reservation is made, but if your room key prints up so that it says "DVC Member" under the name, then you will be able to get 10% off the price of your UPH's.

That said I am not sure of current prices but you can check www.allears.net they have a current list of prices for ticket options. It will usually be cheaper to get a 4 day hopper and a seperate DQ admission (I think), but there might not be enough difference to fuss over...also remember if your room key says DVC member then you can get a decent discount on Disney Quest admission also. Just ask when you check in.

Not sure where llrain got their info, but they are wrong on this one.

Just to further clarify -

If you stay using points, you cannot purchase UPH tickets in advance. You may only purchase them at check in. That means you pay gate price for the UPH tickets.

As already mentioned, the DVC CMs are very accomodating - they almost always allow guests to drop both the first day and the last day of their stay if the guest asks. (This is up to the discretion of the CM, so you cannot absolutely count on it. However, I've not read any reports of anyone being refused).

The ability to drop days (if you don't need them) may be more valuable than the advance purchase discount. If you buy in advance (can do if you book a DVC resort via CRO for cash) you cannot drop days.

As also mentioned earlier, it is not uncommon for renters to receive the DVC 10% discount (off the gate price) for UPH tickets. This is also up to the CM and cannot be counted on, but is more likely than not.

HTH.

Best wishes -

I'll second Carol's post. As for what's best, I sincerely doubt you'll come out ahead with the UMP for what you need. Depending on how early (or late) you arrive in the area and whether you might make future trips, I suspect your best bet is to get either a 3 or 4 day PH pass and pay DQ separately. While Disney does not sell the 3 day PH to the general public, you can often find them at many of the travel agencies that deal with Disney. Plus I suspect your best bet is to rent points and stay the night of arrival instead of off site assuming that first night is not a weekend (Fri or Sat) night.

Just remember that the rules say you must buy the UMP for the entire length of stay BUT DVC CM usually let you drop both the first and last day. And I haven't heard of a case of a renter not getting the discount on the UMP but it's not guaranteed and actually not supposed to happen.

Just wanted to also throw my hat in the ring and state that the above is absolutely incorrect.

The only thing DVC members cannot do is purchase the UPH in advance. Instead we pay at check-in and get a flat 10% discount, we makes for a net price LOWER than the advance purchase price.

And, with the added benefit of dropping days from the UPH, the benefit to DVC members is much more versatile than what is afforded to the typical resort guest.

My SIL just got one last week as our guest at SSR for eight days/seven nights.

Thanks for your help, everyone! I've researched the allearsnet.com site (Thanks for the link) and I believe that Park Hoppers are a better choice for us. Part of why I would like to stay onsite is because of SAB. I wouldn't be able to relax and just spend a day at the pool if I was thinking about paying for a day of UPH that I wasn't using.

Where can I find the UPH prices? Also, can you get one for just 2 days - we get there last the 1st day and leave early the last. Just a 4 day trip!

WDW Ticket Prices

The prices listed include tax. but not the 10% DVC discount. Use the gate prices if you are staying on points.

Yes, you can get a 1 night/2 day UPH. Ask the CM to drop the arrival day and the departure day when you buy the tickets.

If you (or anyone else) decide to definitely do DisneyQuest, buying advance tickets from an online ticket seller such as www.ticketmania.com will generally be significantly cheaper than any discount available at the door, UPH, or whatever.

We normally have annual passes but our expired in August. We are heading down in two days for a 4 night/5 day stay and are still debating which ticket to buy. Either a 5 day park hopper or the length of stay (I guess their called the UPH now?) What would you all recommed. We aren't going to be doing any waterparks or DQ.

Get the park hopper. No sense getting a UPH if you won't do DQ or the waterparks.

If you want the best value, and will use the waterparks on a future trip, the 7-day Park Hopper Plus will give you the lowest average per-day admission cost.
