Ukers!! Have any of you gone solo? And if so was it for 1 or 2 weeks?

I always try to pack my days in order to stave off the loneliness aspect. The longest I've done solo or otherwise has been 9 nights. I actually have two solo trips this year. 5 nights in May and 8 nights in December. I like the planning and I like all of the exercise I get on a Disney vacation. 2 weeks is a long time; it would be hard for me to come up with things to fill up that many days at Disney since I've been so many times. However, if I did stay that long, I suppose I could do a lot more pool time, or tennis, or golf, or boating, or doing spa treatments--but it all takes more money and the rest costs plenty as it is already. No matter how many nights, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. My trip in May will actually be a week following 9 days in the U.K.--so I'll be there while you're in Disney.

Hi DaisyDuck001,
I am not sure what you have in mind for your trip but here is my plan. If anything interests you, I would not mind meeting you. I am planning Hoop De Doo, Akershus and OHana Breakfast, Crystal Palace, x2 Hollywood and Vine, and 1900 Park Faire for dinner. I am also planning MNSSHP and MVMCP. The tours are going to be Wild Africa, Undiscovered Future World, DestiNations, Train Tour and Marceline to MK.
Hi fhtpdw20,

Will one of your Hollywood and Vine meals be Minnie's Halloween Dine (dinner)? If so, I'd like to meet for that, and that would be my first choice from among the things you mentioned. It was on my trip plan also.

I'm also open to meeting during part of MNSSHP and/or MVMCP, maybe to go around meeting characters, if you like.

Hey DaisyDuck001,
I will be doing Hollywood and Vine twice. The first one is Halloween (11/3) and the second one (11/7) is the switch to Christmas theme. There use to be an email function, but I can't find the button so that we can talk off-line.

I would like to meet you for the Halloween dinner at Hollywood and Vine. I will send you a separate message.

Thanks again everyone for the info! I will deffo look into staying at POP then! I do want to stay on site just because I think I will feel safer, and I would like the advantages of magic hours etc! Ive never stayed on Disney before, its always been on I Drive so it would be nice to have a change! I didnt know that they did shuttles to Universal there though! I read some other forums that people said it was hard to get to universal from Disney and that the taxis were far too expensive. Which is why I was a bit unsure what the situation would be! But thats all cool then :) Thanks!!! :) xxx

For 2 weeks, I agree with Pop over the All-Stars. With Pop - you can walk over to AoA for a change of resort scenery. Other tips:

1) If you are a coffee drinker every morning since the values don't have coffee makers in their room - you might consider bringing one or buying one to be shipped to your resort.
2) Consider a grocery delivery service for snacks, some meals in the room.
3) Just plan on doing laundry vs. bringing enough clothes for that long.
4) If you do want to go to Universal for a day - the Mears shuttle service isn't bad in price. It takes some time - but it's a normal thing they do - so it works.

Thank you for the tips, thats great! I drink tea so I will bring a kettle then! But I mostly live off frappacinos while im over there, dont get the chance to have them at home much (dont even have a starbucks in my town can you believe!!) so I need to make the most of them haha! I need to do some research into the Mears shuttle then, I do want to do universal as I do love it there as well! Thank you so much! Its pretty daunting going away on my own for the first time, and to somewhere so far away too, but Im starting to feel quite excited! And I love meeting new people as well! Thanks again! :) :) :)

Hi Leagill,
As you know I'm from the UK too and I have personally stayed at both Pop and All Star Music.

I would personally choose Pop for several reasons:
  • Better bus service, as the buses are not shared, also if there is a long line at the parks you have the option of jumping on an AoA bus if there is no line and depending on where you are located in PoP it's a short walk over the bridge from AoA.
  • I preferred the food options available at Pop.
  • I prefer the layout of the resort, there is more closer together.
With regards to your trip obviously 2 weeks makes much more sense financially. I find mixing in some water park days, as well as a few sit down meals, as well as time to just take in things I wouldn't have time for on a group trip helps to break up park days. It's nice to have time to go on the boat from Disney Springs up to Port Orleans or going over to Fort Wilderness for an afternoon. To be honest with the flight being such a high cost I would probably be reluctant to do less than 10 days.

Hi @Leagill

I think we ought to organise an annual UK trip for adults! I've been so lucky that last year my best friend came with me and this year is my Dad's 65th so I am going to Disney with my parents for 2 weeks (hmmmmmm!!! I will turn 28 2 days after returning, seems funny that I am going on holiday with my parents. They are great fun though). I see you are looking at 9 May so I would just miss you!
I really hope you have a lovely time and you manage to meet up with lots of very nice like minded people :-)

Hello from Wales.
Last time I went solo it was for 10 days, I did 4 nights onsite (OKW) with dining plan then 6 nights offsite. Worked well for me.
September I've just booked for 11 nights this year - going to split my stay again but 7 nights Disney (probably 5 nights all star/2 nights bwv) and 4 nights Sapphire Falls.
Happy planning!

Just a quick update on things for anyone who might be interested! So I was lucky enough to meet a guy on tinder a few weeks back who is super lovely, and as mates we have now booked to go to the Paris Disneyland in May! He is joining me in the parks for one of the days, and then on the second day he is going into Paris while I am going to spend the whole day solo at the parks to get a feel for the whole 'alone' thing! I am hoping that this will be a good test run to see how I will like being solo in Disney World! I have never been to the Paris one before either, I hope its good? xx

I did two weeks at Disney last September with 3 days at Universal afterwards. I didn't get lonely and got to do a lot of things I didn't get to do in my previous solo trip which was only 7 days at Disney. One of the great things about wifi meant not only being able to post updates/photos online during my trip but also getting to facetime with the family. Similarly having a meal at Biergarten for example is great if you need a good chat with people.

I did quite a few full days at parks, some half days and got to have a day or two of just chilling at my resort. I even managed to fit in a fabulous manicure at Senses Spa at Grand Floridian. I ended up having to move my trip so I stayed at 4 different Disney resorts so I did quite a bit of resort-hopping without meaning to haha. The only thing was that I was absolutely knackered by the end of the 2 weeks (partially because of the heat and partly because of all the moving around) so I didn't really enjoy Universal as much as the previous trip.

I used Uber to get from Disney to Universal and it cost me about $12 and wasn't a problem. Also used it to get to the airport as well.

I planned and booked a solo trip last year, i couldn't decide on 1 or 2 weeks as it was my first solo holiday so I opted for 9 nights and booked All Star Mu as it was the cheapest. In the end a friend decided to join me on the trip and to be honest I was a little gutted not to be going solo anymore, the idea of being alone in Disney ended up being really exciting to me, doing what I wanted, when I wanted? yes please!
All Star music was ok, nothing wrong with the room really and thats from someone who previously stayed at mostly deluxe resorts but the buses were busy most of the time, the sharing with he other All Star resorts wasn't great and I found the resort was full of too many young children for me, certainly couldn't 'relax' around the pool, the food court was pretty hectic 90% of time but overall I'd rather have been there than not at Disney.
I'm doing DLR solo this year but next year my solo trip to WDW is definitely happening and will be for 10-14 nights, staying at a moderate though

IMO, and as PPs have mentioned, POP is preferable to AS Music because of the dedicated park bus and the bridge to AoA with its food court. I have stayed at both and POP is the value that I keep returning to. Definitely check out the POP thread on the Board's resort subforum. Lots of helpful info.

2 weeks will go by very quickly. I had a 2 week stay at the POP last Fall during Food & Wine. I loved every minute of it. If you have the Magic Your Way package, don't forget that you have free vouchers for the Winter Summerland miniature golf on property & its a fun way to put in a hr on a non-park day. Just get on the Blizzard Beach bus from your resort.

I have also taken the Mears shuttle right from the front door of my resort to Universal and back. Sometimes its a marked mini-van with other WDW guests. Sometimes they send one of their taxis. I have found it inexpensive & reliable. Your concierge at the POP or any other resort can book it for you ahead of time once you are on property. The single day tickets to Universal are much more $ but if you are flying from the UK, you may decide it is worthwhile.

Have a great vacation!

DaisyDuck001: I sent you an email. I need to change date to 11/2 if that works with your plans.

I was thinking of going solo this May, but I am not sure whether to go for 1 or 2 weeks! Obviously its more cost effective to do 2 weeks, but I am worried about getting a little bit lonely as 2 weeks is a long time really, especially in this instance where I will only be doing the Disney parks and not Universal this time around. Any thoughts from anyone who has done this? Thanks so much! :) xx
Can I join you? I was going to go April 27 to may 2 to Disneyland in Anaheim. I could postpone a little to when you can go if so. Let me know. I'm 36 male and a big kid, but you don't need to babysit me. Lol. Dex. 408-618-2508.

Hey djengdome! Im actually going to disney paris in 2 weeks, having a solo day there as a trial/test run to see if i like being solo in the parks! If i like it i will look at booking florida this year but wont be until a bit later in the year now, more like late sept (as the prices are too high for a solo traveller in the peak summer months sadly!) I hope you have an amazing trip if you go to Disneyland soon! Ive heard the one is Anaheim is amazing! Ive never been to that one myself!

Well if you end up wanting to go to any disney theme park together let me know. I want to go with someone. More fun. Dex

I just came back from a week at both Disneyland and Disney World alone. Personally, I have no trouble being alone because I keep myself amused by browsing through the shops, I go to shows, meet characters, use the single rider lines, even sit down alone to eat... I have no problem. And what I found was that the longer I spent alone, the more open I became to talking to perfect strangers, and I really enjoyed meeting them - I even made new friends!

I say go for it and enjoy it - you get to do whatever you like whenever you feel like it, and you're more likely to make new friends! :)
